I just heard of Herbert Draper, (1863-1920) I guess he is not that well known anymore.
I think some of his work is very spiritually grand, like
flying fish,
the water baby,
&
Lament for Icarus.

the romantic era is not over, and if it is we’ll revive it. draper’s works are quite phenomenal, you’re right - they have a very rich, mythical feel to them and his use of detail and colour is extraordinary. at least he was famous in his time.

never did it for me. I came upon it about a year ago. Its really regarded as underappreciated now. Then again, what art isnt now adays
