Honor Horror1

A week ago I watched with horror, a video, taped from a cell phone depicting the stoning of a young girl by her family , in Iraq, she was carried, head-locked by some old men to a public place,
she was crying obviously terrified by what they were going to do to her. It was like a crowded market full of people , lookers and voyeurs, cops who didn’t budged, moved, to prevent this awful sadistic and insane murder of this young child, which the only fault, was to have felt in love with a man of a different sect of Islam. they called that “honor killing”. So they made a circle, threw her in the middle and started throwing stones at her, by the Koran the stones must not be too big as to don’t kill the victim right away but to inflict a long and painful agony,
It was so unbelievable, they stoned her , the cousin, the father, the uncle and many other men, with sharp and small size stones, so she wouldn’t die too fast,
I couldn’t fall asleep last night , all I could see was that tape, that video, playing again and again in my head, how I wish I could have been there , I don’t know what I could have done but I would have certainly opposed to it,….that beautiful young girl and this sadistic, barbarian and insane death still trouble me, how can you bring to this world children and killed them with your own hands? How? all day today I made researches on stone killing in Iran, Iraq, and I am so disgusted….I want to do something, I still don’t know exactly what….but that’s on my
agenda.
Is there a philosophy behind all that? Isnt it total insanity? False pride, hubris, EVIL, named honor?
how bloody hell this is happening in 2007?

I’d laugh but theirs nothing to laugh about, it is an atrocity but saddly one that is unpreventable, bear this in mind with what I am about to say.

Here it is 2007 in the beginings of a post modern era, we have all we would ever need to survive, and pride os non essential for life, we live we die and we are happy.

there it is not the same story, they are using the same ways of life they had in 400 BC. and not beacuse they choose to but because they have no other options. survival is an issue of everyone working together aand defending what you have from your enemies. even with some of our technology they still fight for survival.

When she fell in love with someone of a diffrent sect she endangered her clans survival by possably starting a war. her familys survival was jepordised because of this threat they were likely to be neglected by their clan, so as a sign of repentance on their part they stonned her as a scapegoat so that they may live, simmilar acts occured throughout all developing socioties including our own.

even if you were to give them all the money they would ever need they would still do it bvecause they have not learned it is not nessasary. the only end would be to trigger a renisance within the country, and as long as we are interfearing that will only be inhibited.

if you truly wish to change such things then become an intermediary and a teacher, and begin a form of middle eastern renisance, otherwise you woll need to kill everyone involved leaving no one to remain.

legal ledgislation will change nothing, the people will simply do as they have outside the laws. and to do something like removing the exsisting power will only put new powers in it’s place. the people there are the only ones who can change the way things are over there.

that all being said I feel your pain and anguish, along with a feeling of helplessness, however the means of change are soft spoken words and kindness not violance, bear this in mind.

peace

Pretty grim

And, what Onlyhuman said. Cultural inertia.

Your words, especially the last paragraph have brought a very welcome smidge of acceptance in all that very unacceptable story , though it doesnt change the fact that the crime is odious and unforgivable.

Yes I agree with you Tabula Rasa! Phew! so irreversibly sad!
