Honor Horror1

A week ago I watched with horror, a video, taped from a cell phone depicting the stoning of a young girl by her family , in Iraq, she was carried, head-locked by some old men to a public place,
she was crying obviously terrified by what they were going to do to her. It was like a crowded market full of people , lookers and voyeurs, cops who didn’t budged, moved, to prevent this awful sadistic and insane murder of this young child, which the only fault, was to have felt in love with a man of a different sect of Islam. they called that “honor killing”. So they made a circle, threw her in the middle and started throwing stones at her, by the Koran the stones must not be too big as to don’t kill the victim right away but to inflict a long and painful agony,
It was so unbelievable, they stoned her , the cousin, the father, the uncle and many other men, with sharp and small size stones, so she wouldn’t die too fast,
I couldn’t fall asleep last night , all I could see was that tape, that video, playing again and again in my head, how I wish I could have been there , I don’t know what I could have done but I would have certainly opposed to it,….that beautiful young girl and this sadistic, barbarian and insane death still trouble me, how can you bring to this world children and killed them with your own hands? How? all day today I made researches on stone killing in Iran, Iraq, and I am so disgusted….I want to do something, I still don’t know exactly what….but that’s on my
agenda.
Is there a philosophy behind all that? Isnt it total insanity? False pride, hubris, EVIL, named honor?
how bloody hell this is happening in 2007?

That’s exactly what the war on terror is trying to stop. Also, do you have a link to that video?

The video was everywhere a week ago and strangely it has been removed even from youtube, however go to that link and there are photos of that horrible murder

They stone girls to death, and we give birth to hundreds of babies addicted to crack ect…

Equally cruel, ours is just more modern. At least their’s has some meaning and purpose though - tradition and honor.

what you wrote is as horrifying as the murder of this young girl.

Being born addicted to crack is a lark compare to be killed that way …
and the comparaison is so blatantly careless and nonchalantly stupid…

What’s she doing having sex at 14? I think we could learn something about the way we dicipline our children from these people.

you cant be serious arent you?

if you are that kind of ++++++ please stop replying to my post.
there are too much evil around to correspond with it.

I"m not saying we should stone them to death. But we do probably need better ways to prevent young girls in America from getting knocked up so early. It’s bad for the economy.

FIrst you didnt even read the article, she was 17 years old and still a virgin…please stop responding to my post you have nothing intelligent to say please refrain from replying or even reading my posts after this one.

Good luck with your life.

I’d laugh but there is nothing to laugh about, it is an atrocity but unfortunatly an unavoidable one. bear this in mind with what I am about to say.

Here it is 2007 in the beginings of a post modern era, we have all we need to survive and proide is not essentual. there the story is very diffrent.

over there survival is only assured by communal agreement and by protecting what they have from their enemies. by being with someone from a diffrent sect she has endangered her village survival, and her family would suffer abandonment as a result, as a way to redeem themselves for their village they offered her as a scapegoat.

This is indeed horid but the same thing happened in all developing socioties, including ours. and even if they had all our technology or money they would still need to learn for themselves that it is not nessasary, and even if we forbade them to do so they still would regardless.

the only true resolution would be to begin a form of renisance within their country, such is the way of things, and if you truly wish to help change such atrocities, become an intermediary or a teacher and show them a better path without using things beyond their means.

I feel your pain and a feeling of helplessness, but only the people there can change things there, all we can do is show them the door.

peace

Stoning people to death has been a practice in Islam and Judaism for a long time. Jews and Muslims both did it. You’ll see in the first parts of the bible, if you ever read there, they command to stone anybody who commits a certain kind of offense, etc. For example, if you work on the sabath day, and don’t celebrate that holiday, they’d kill you… It’s different now, in modern times, but Christians still worship the “God” that supposedly commanded this kind of thing. Ex: When moses came down from the mountain, @ 10 commandments time, found the guys having a party infront of the gold-calf, and killed the fuck out of everybody… That’s theocratic fascism. It’s all middle-eastern, yeah! In an era of ancient and cruel despotism, dictatorship took the form of a religion, and one god-king was the dictator. “Evil” has been a world-religion for a long time now, seriously…

damavava, what are you going to do about it, hmm?
Feel sad?
Want it not to be that way?
Try to think up a solution?

First of all, this event was only shocking because you did not expect it. When old people die from old age it is not shocking because you’ve come to expect it. All forms of evil automatically become “okay” and “natural” if they happen ALL THE TIME. I’m dead-serous; that’s how humans pretend to think…

If you want to save humanity FROM ITS OWN ACTIONS then you’ll need to have allot of power or influance which makes them less-human into your idealized way of ethics.

If I had my way I’d stone mohammad and the rest of those fruity bastards, lol. Just to see how they like it. And I’d call myself Gods messenger, and I’d say I was perfect, and then give them a taste of their own shit!

As an injured reaction to Jews, Muslims and Christians, persons may flip out and go materialist-avangelitical-atheist or satanist. :frowning:

As an injured reaction to War, violence and oppression, persons may flip out and become extreme passivists which refuse to ever fight back or kill the ones whom actually are causing damage to society in the first place…

Either way, it’s just one mess after another. Polarization, madness and stupidity.

You really think that girl was 17 and still a virgin? I’m doubting that one. That’s all from me. Sorry. I’m a last word freak. I’ll leave you alone now.

What do you want? Do you want an explanation? Would that make it acceptable to you?

I think she really doesn’t like it, and I’d guess she thinks humanity should be much more “civilized” than it is today.

I’m guessing you’ve never experienced crack withdraws nor seen someone go through them. Especially a baby, but crack withdraws was just the first cruelty that came to mind, because it is so traumatic and cruel.

If you want something that more properly parallels “honor killings”, then we have a perfect example in teenage mothers that leave their babies for dead in dumpsters or on street corners. This is done as a matter of honor or social rank, and again it is equally as cruel as stoning someone to death, and just as much a part of society. Or the case today where the woman hung her 4 children and then killed herself. You’ll probably think to yourself, “that women is crazy, it wasn’t endorsed by society”, and you will be wrong. The poor lady was living in a trailer working a Wendy’s, trying to take care of 4 children on the wages of poverty, and society ignored her.

The difference is not in the amount of cruelty and pain that the respective societies perpetrate against it’s members, but a semantic matter of “civility”. We put it out of sight out of mind, we reserve these cruelties for the alleyways and trailer parks, we as a culture will do nothing about it, and most of the time we are also to weak to admit that we are to blaim. However, we see something like the stoning, and it’s not the cruelty that offends us, but that their culture puts this cruelty out in the open for all to see.

If you need to attack a another society to keep from looking at your own, that is your prerogative, but if you want to find cruelty and neglect, just take a drive to a local highschool and look for the girl wearing a sweatshirt, or next time you go to a fast food restaurant ask the 20-30 year old cashier what their life is like, or what their childs life is like.

And At least Iraqi’s have enough respect for the victims of their culture to recognize that they are in fact victims, us Americans, we don’t even give our victims the status, we force them to suffer silently and alone.

Human cruelty may be more hidden in America, but to be very honest, cruelty and cultural opinions about it – exist in various degrees per race and per nation. Some countries are very corrupt in civil terms, while other countries are less corrupt, etc. This depends upon many many factors, and is dealt with in a variety of ways. I don’t think damavava was trying to “attack another society” to keep looking at her own…
Honestly, how is she “attacking”?
Isn’t she just feeling sad
That someone else got attacked
In another country?

That’s all.
It’s mostly pitty/empathy/mercy, here; no directly intended complex political mind-games were in her, I figure.

Don’t some of you think your being a little hard on Dama. she’s just looking around at the world and asking how come humans aren’t better? I ask myself the same question everyday. Honestly you have to try to turn a blind eye to that kind of stuff as much as you can if your sensitive to it. I have to avoid watching the news or reading the paper too often.

The problem is humans are just smart animals, and that’s it. Not some incredibly morally developed creature. Like any animal the vast majority of humans are out for number one and thats about it. Were smart enough to make giant bombs to toss at eachother and missiles that can travel the length of the globe, but not smart enough to realize we’ve been fighting over the same handful of ridiculous outmoded concepts for millenia.

The thing you have to try to remember is this is basically the most civilized the world has ever been. Things like that stoning have been going on for thousands of years and will probably continue for thousands of years. Someone somewhere is doing something awful to someone else for no good reason just about 24/7. Try to find a healthy way of coping with that knowledge or it’ll drive you nuts trust me I know.

I agree, that not all societies are as cruel as all others, my point was that a few isolated incidences of cruelty in a culture, does not make that culture inferior to others, or “insane”. I thought I did an appropriate job of juxtaposing Stoning against similar cruelties to be found in American culture, in an attempt to show that her outrage at stoning was hypocritical, given that there is plenty to be disgusted about in any culture, despite her calling American cruelty “lark”.

The entire tone of her post, the original, and the one where she indicts me as careless for pointing out an example of cruelty in our culture betrays your assertion that she is simply empathizing rather than attacking.

Because there’s so much religion over there.

No different to Christians burning people at the stake in the old days.

Thank God for the lack of religion in the West.

‘It’s not religion but the lack of religion today that stops them from - burning us.’ - Nietzsche

What else would you expect of a Modern Woman?

People’s views are sometimes less important than why or how they came to hold these views.
