What’s the physical process that leads to vision? A sensor detects patterns of light, which are sent into a decision-making unit (which has rules to follow and goals to attain), and which leads to outputs being activated. This is essentially what human brains do, and it’s also what robots like this one do:
I believe that this machines (and others like it) has a simple visual consciousness. As it rolls down the corridors, a movie-like succession of images flashes before it. It isn’t self aware, and it doesn’t reflect on its “life”, but it sees nevertheless.
I say that anyone who disagrees with this “strong-AI” postulation is in fact what I call a “cerebral solipsist” - someone who thinks that the only structures that can give rise to vision are brains, such as their own.
