How can you see by listening?

I saw a show, “medical mysteris”, there was a man who have a mental image in his head by clicking his mouth sending forth echo and creates the images. He lost his eyesight at the age of 2. He never used a cane before, he rides a bike, skate, plays baseketball, and video games.

What is the mystery of those who loses his senses but capable of functioning as well as a normal human being? Such as the famous figure Hellen Keller, who lost his sight, hearing, and tongue( muted ).

It’s called synthesia. A lot of drugs do this, actually.

Basically just getting your wires crossed. How can you ‘see the music’? Well, if your wetware isn’t workin’ too right it will misinterpret one stimulus for another.

If you are interested, I could try to dig up some neurosci papers for you.

oddly enoguh i just watched the movie “ray” today (which was fantasitc)

and upon doing so put hard sole shoes on and tried seeing if i could hear the difference between rooms and wht not.

maybe it was bias.

but it works.

as far as the clicky guy. i remeber seeing it, and if im correct he could guess colors as well (somehow?). I remeber thinking it was a scam.

I always wondered what would happen if a child was somehow raised from birth in a sensory deprived environment? I mean… if the senses are heightened when one is taken away, what if all of them are taken away?

I envision a Minority Report type thing.

Aside from sheer insanity, their mind would start totally making stuff up.

Holy Jungian dystopia! They’d have to seriously reach into the collective unconcious!

How could they have a conception of sanity to juxtapose their insanity to?

This question has plagued me for a long time… ever since I first read Searle. If I get into it now I’ll never get my reading done

I was wondering dan020350, how the blind man could play video games.

easy

The sounds of the characters and the movement of control.
This blind man/ kid beat his opponent is a fighting game mortal kombat.
But games like rpg, and action I doubt it. It will be a challenge.
But fighting games it will be easy.

yes, the wide adventure games are the ones that I am accustomed to, so i was puzzled to hear that some one who is blind could play video games of that sort. But also, they did not specify what kinds, so hopefully it is just fighting games.
