Love and compassion works?
What of the unloved and those that receive no compassion their entire lives?
I wonder if a study was done statistically around the world what the actual numbers would be between those that have both and those who have neither.
So assuming that Jesus is inept, you suggest that people not do as he suggests?
Well, given what you assume…
People always did what Jesus told them to do?? I don’t think so.
But if it’s true then that’s good for him because it makes everything easy. Most mere mortals are not so persuasive and if they want to use love and compassion to solve problems, they should be prepared for noncompliance. 
Then those people were not HIS to condemn or control … nor yours.
That is why it takes time and begins with only a few people. The only error, as with all grand schemes, is that they spread their ways too thinly and thus allowed for far too much corruption. He told them, “if you want to be one of mine, you must give up, even hate, your old ways”(paraphrased). To be most effective, Christianity must be thick and coordinated. That is why they propagate the idea of not belonging to an “organized religion” … so that there can be no religion at all.
People need to accept that some people should not be controlled by the ideals of others. Jesus never claimed otherwise. But his adversaries did … and still do.
