How secure is msn mess?

Hi y’all…

I am being a mom here, but I need some answers. My daughter has a laptop. She has a boyfriend out of town and they insist on doing webcam communication (blah, blah) behind closed doors. She is old enough and this is not a moral question but one of net security only.

How likely is it for a third person to see what she is doing or saying. We have a secured network but when she is at school I am not so sure. I am just worried about her naively doing something on the net and have it be broadcasted in a public domain. Am I nervous for no reason, or should I be concerned and do something?

Thanks. I knew you techies would help me out. She has msn messenger.

NOTHING is secure on the internet.

A better question might be: were internet cameras invented to cheapen human relationships even more? Absolutely.

There is nothing more ridiculous than cam-sex, which is what your daughter is going to end up doing with the horney little punk on the other end when he convinces her to take her clothes off. No, they aren’t gonna use the camera for anything else so don’t believe a word she says.

“But mom, all the kids got one!” she says. And you, the “popular mother,” who most certainly wants to be modern and hip and loved by your kids, etc., etc., will allow her to do it.

Seriously think about it. Masturbation is already bad enough. NOW, we have masturbation on camera with strangers all over the world.

Is this healthy?

Don’t answer.

I have cam conversations with a young lady quit often, and she would love nothing more than getting naked for me on the cam, but I won’t let her, and if she does…she can fuck off.

I’m like a rock, Bessy. Quite possibly the last moral man left on this earth.

detrop, is a wonder hypocrite!

Bessy = no third party can watch the cam (unless there happens to be two people in the same room at the other end).

How old is old enough?

  1. Nothing on the internet is entirely safe. Should someone desperately want to intercept the comms between two MSN messenger users then they probably can.

  2. A quick visit to any number of NSFW forums reveals that there are literally hundreds if not thousands of videos of people stripping and masturbating on their webcams. It appears that most of these are of females under 30, usually with some sort of jilted ex-boyfriend story attached. Of course, many of these may well have been stolen via hacking or just material theft and the story is simply the ‘blah blah’ that is chosen as the necessary explanation.

  3. So called sexual liberation, as with everything, comes at a price. The capacity to explore any given sexual practice often equates, in the minds of young, bored people, to the necessity to do that to prove that one is, indeed, ‘liberated’. To get all Lyotard, this is part of a metanarrative of liberation, where ‘freedom’, or more accurately a duplicitous impression thereof, is used as an excuse and justification. The corollary of this is overuse of ‘fascism’ to denote anything that slightly questions the established notion of ‘freedom’. Islamofascism, corporate fascism, you get the idea.

So, it’s not particularly likely that the webcam stripshows will be intercepted or stolen, but it’s entirely possible and if they are, then chances are a LOT of voyeuristic netnerds will get to see them.

I’ve only had MSN Messenger for a couple of days now, but I noticed that when I use the thing, a liitle tip appears on top of the message box saying that one should by no means disclose credit card numbers or telephone numbers via messenger. I think it’s a principle thing that devices like this aren’t going to be entirely safe.

Thanks for the great input… I agee that it can lead to no good, but I do understand the fascination. I think it is a crazy world out there if these videos are being taken and ruining lives. I am right to remain fearful and I appreciate your honest answers.

Be afraid. Be very afraid.
