I wrote this as part of a discussion topic in religion class I recently finished. It’s fairly short and I feel that it pretty much summarized my feelings on religion and the human animal, so I kept it. I am new to these forums and this is my first post so I thought I would share this with everyone, I would love to hear what others think about this; every ones agreements and disagreements.
Too much blame is placed on body of ideas when in actuality it is the people who choose to live out those ideas.
Religion is a tool, a means of transportation for humans in their quest for understanding. I believe it was Albert Camus who said that human beings have two basic needs, a need for understanding and a need for social contact. In my opinion religion answers these needs for many people throughout the world. Most religions provide a means of understand why we are here, what we should do while we are here and what happens when we depart. It also fulfills the social desire because it allows us to relate to other people, particularly those who believe the same ideologies that we do.
There is nothing wrong with this and I don’t believe there is any correct or incorrect religion because the goal of them all is similar; the means to the end is the only difference. We put too much focus on the differences, so much so that these minor differences are now glaring points of anger and contempt. In the end it is the inheritable flaws that we all as humans posses that is the cause of these massive rifts. Perhaps only when we are able to look at the world around us with an educated eye and an open mind will we as human beings truly find an ultimate reality.

What, the human animal!!!
Did you learn anything at all from your religion class?
What, btw, is ultimate reality?
That is a great idea. (jk, Not really.) Instead of trying to refute ideas we should attack people who hold religious beliefs!

Why do you feel that you must put words into my mouth?
