conflict makes the drama interesting. And oh, no, what would we do if things got a tad toooooooo booooorrrrrring!
we want the war. not just THE war. The warS.
I could say more, and i’m sure you want proof, but are you willing to debate me? Are you prepared to tell me I’m wrong? Is there a pain against me that you WANT to Express? You individual expressor?
you and I are the same and want the same thing. Conflict. to separate us from and with GOD"S love.
I think most people would agree with you here. The idea that humans enjoy and need conflict is fairly common, even in pop culture. (The Matrix comes to mind.) Im sure you’ll have many who will argue with you (even if they agree) which further shows the point. Ill be honest, Im tempted to argue the counter point even though I agree with you just for the fun. That would just be too hypocritical though.
Everybody wants a war, unless they have to be on the front itself.
First hipocrisy: “fight for me, but without me!”
Everybody loves to see destruction and disaster, unless it happenes to them.
Second hipocrisy: “Holy shit! Look at that earthquake! Awesome. Good thing it isn’t my house falling into the ground.” Or “OMG, look at that accident, honey. Drive slowly so we can get a better view. Damn, that dude is hatin it. K, I’ve seen enough, let’s go get dinner and a movie.”
The democratic consumer is an arm-chair warrior, conditioned to admire violence through simulation, but without the courage to involve themselves in violence individually. The American military consists of what a friend once called “the locker-room mentality”. Soldiers do not enter the military to “fight for their country and its ideals”, because they are generally stupid, and interested in only pretending to be their favorite action hero or video game character. One needs only watch the advertisement commercials for the Army to observe the semiotic motivations. Its about being “cool” and “tough” and nothing more. The American military is composed of the cheapest, most decedent soldier mentality and constitution possible. The superior weapons technology proves the point even more; how could you not win a battle with such technology?
The American military is a fashion show for middle and lower class men, used to try to appear masculine and courageous to the consumer public.
I am most certainly an arm chair warrior. Untouchable. Simulation driven. Allow me to admit to feeling the unreality of what I see. I almost dont believe in anything outside my immediate circle.
One thing I might add though, is that if my house were to fall into an earthquake hole, I would think the worst, but I would never know how fortune might favor my case. Some people who win the lottery curse the day they ever bought the ticket. So while I dont want to be on the front line of any war, it just could change my life in a positive way.
I could ask why we are driven by conflict but for me it is a personal thing, I dont like war for the whole destroction, perhaps I’m simply odd but the idea of something going boom dosent excite me unless it does it in an interesting way, ie. rebidium being dropped in a bath tub or the like.
But I love conflict, in a fight you get to test your abilaties to their peak and see if you can extend them, just like an argument is a great way to train your mental focus and concentration, particurlarly wit.
personally I hate war, but I love to fight, more for the thrill than anything else, and to be able to see your limits is the ultimate thrill, but then I tend to be the odd one out on this sort of thing.
An amusing speculation, detrop. Too bad you don’t know anyone in the military upon whom you could test your hypothesis. But that, I suppose, is precisely the problem.
Fine. I admit that most of them could probably kick my ass, but still I think they have generally bad attitudes and join the military for the wrong reasons. Soldiers have recently displayed extremely unacceptable behavior, as I have seen in media footage, and we all know what the commercials are like.
I suppose each soldier has his reasons for joining the military. I’m just questioning the integrity of those reasons and exactly what those reasons consist of. I don’t think that the average soldier has the intelligence to decide to make a decision like that- to “think you understand world politics and are ready to represent and defend one form over another.”
