Hurricane Ian is about to smash into the West coast of Florida. Perhaps as the deadliest of all hurricanes…a category 5.
God knows [literally if there is one] how many people [men, women and children] will die or suffer terrible injuries. How many will lose everything to the storm. How many will find their lives all but in tatters.
So, what, given your own best thinking, was God [your God, their God, any God] thinking when He created planet Earth to make these ghastly “acts of God” inevitable.
Ironically, I wish that I could believe in God if only to have someone to hold responsible for all of these terrible “natural disasters”. At least there would be a reason for all of the horrific pain and suffering. And I’d sure be willing to settle for God’s “mysterious ways” rather than in believing that these things happen in the way in which “shit happens”…in an essentially meaningless and purposeless world encompassed in the “brute facticity” of an utterly indifferent universe.
It wasn’t god, it was Bigfoot. The great Bigfoot in the woods was getting hot and dry and needed a shower and his water supply replenished. He raised his hand and summoned the forces that be. He does not care what damage to humans is done, he just wants to cool off and quench his thirst. God is the one that saves little dogs from burning up in wild fires.
Reminds me of this person I knew way back in MoL (MSN group… believe it was Craig… LL&P…) who saw God’s hand in a guy giving him a cigarette.
Every good thing is from God.
But.
Define Good.
God knows your heart. Period. And he’s not a fricken idiot that thinks you’ll ever reach his level. That’s why he kept the bar high & came down to our level — and our work is to trust what he did, & do the same. That’s how we rise to his level - & fricken descend to it!
[b]'BANGKOK — A former police officer armed with a handgun and knife attacked a child-care facility in northeastern Thailand on Thursday, killing more than 30 people, most of them children, in the deadliest mass shooting in the Southeast Asian nation ever carried out by a lone perpetrator.
The attacker then shot and killed himself, his wife and their 4-year-old child, according to officials. In all, the gunman killed 37 people, the national police chief said.'[/b]
Of course, here it is easier to place the focus on the evil that is said to manifest itself over and again among mere mortals.
God gave the man free will and he chose to slaughter these kids.
As though – presto! – that lets the omniscient and omnipotent God off the hook.
Omniscient meaning [for some] that the man was not really free to choose to do this at all because God knew in advance that he would do it. Meaning [again, for some] that he was never really able to not do it.
Omnipotent meaning that God could have made it impossible for the man to do this…freely of his own volition or not.
Thus back again to His “mysterious ways” in allowing things like this to happen.
