Humanity is apart of the animal kingdom. Our id is wild!! What we do is completely derived from inner sexual/social desires. Although Freud may argue that there are 2 other psychological states, I believe that we are far simpler and on a biological scale we are innocent creatures influenced by a predestinate existence.
Though we have animalistic foundations, humanity is different in many ways to the animal kingdom. No species in the animal kingdom have advanced as far as we have, we are a league of its own. We are capable of consiousness.
If one defines the id as ‘the subconscious energies of the mind’, then yes, it’s an apt concept. But to reduce it to a function of sexual desire is stupid.
Pending your definition of consciousness I would think that all species expend some sort of consciousness into the world what is largely emphasized rather is what are we conscious about in comparison to another species of sort.
I would also suggest that we have much more freedom than much of the animal kingdom becuase we are able to determine our actions by reason and reason alone. I do not believe that we are simply a biological species that is acting out pre determined actions by our inner instincts or impulses. Human consciousness far exceeds this purpose of being.
