I HAVE A CAR!!!

I just got my first ever car. YAY YAY YAY!!! I’m so excited. I’m pretty sure this isn’t worthy of a thread all to itself but I’m too excited.
YAY
omg!!
wahey!

Good for you, young lady. You are becomming a woman and let us not waste a moment more on philosophy, but rather ponder the significance of the practicality of driving. A real pragmatism.

First, despite what Sammy Hagar advises, it is quite possible to drive fifty-five, and, indeed, for good reason, so don’t listen to him. Modern physics has shown that heavy objects that collide in space cause an impact that can distort the physical features of the objects involved. You don’t want that to happen to you or your car.

Second, you must take care of your car because if you do not keep it for eternity you will most certainly sell it, so you want it to maintain its good condition. I have a vehicle that is worth more now than when I bought it. You must appreciate the value of your car. (pun intended)

Third, you are not “da bomb” because of the car you drive. Your virtue must come from within. Do not spend money on accessories and rims and little glow-lights and shit. You are a special, special person regardless of your car and regardless of what the others think when they stare at you at the stop-light in the mornings on the way to work.

Spend your money on Existentialist literature, Frank Zappa albums, food, a map for which to guide your journeys, hostel reservations, and gasoline.

What kind of car did you get?

I think before I drive at past 55, and glare at people by the traffic lights I need to take some lessons and learn how to drive, so far I have mastered, turning it on  indicating, and windscreen wipers (which was particularly special as it was raining  )

its a second hand ford fiesta, and its like racing green coloured, and it is SO PRETTY.

hmm ok, i won’t waste my money on gadgets… (it all goes on credit anyway :frowning: ) but is it ok if my friends buy gadgets for me… my boyf works part time in halfords (so they will be discounted cheap gadgets YAY!!!)

and ok I am not da bomb because of my BEAUTIFUL CAR, I am da bomb cos I am just awesome  but now I’m awesome AND I have a car.

I am so thoroughly over-excited by this, it feels like i’m 7 yrs old at christmas again…
YAY

I don’t have a car of my own, I share one with someone else.

Excuse me, is this club for people who don’t own cars? Oops, sorry, wrong room.

I can drive one, though.

I’ve never actually met anyone excited by owning a Ford Fiesta! :astonished: Still, I guess for a chick it’s not so bad. D’ is right- 55 mph is possible…at least in town. :evilfun:

you have a car , the gas stations of gasoline , whoopdie do!.

hey I turned 18 all of a week ago, and I own my very first car. and its all mine… (i don’t know how to drive it though) i’d be excited no matter what it was… but its pretty, and fun, and I LOVE IT. and I like ford fiestas anyway…

its very very exciting

yay

huh???

The first car is like a rite of passage. great responsibility comes with great fun and freedom. Balance both well. Oh and keep the folks happy by volunteering to run errands. It is a great way to get gas money too. I took my little brothers places and would go to the stores. The folks would get fuel for my car for me to use. decent trade off.

You can’t do that in Colorado, at least, not a first. No one under 21, or 18, one of the two.

Can’t do what drive passengers when under 21? or drive passengers under 21 when you are under 21?

If you’re under 18 when you get your licence you can’t have people under 18 in your car, until about six months, then you can have one. Then after a year you can have more.

The word ‘shit’ seems so much more out of place in this post.

And congratulations sarax, im almost 17 and intend to get a van as soon as possible. Not a transit van or anything like that, a camper van. Although im lacking in money and a job… I need to find one.

Cursing is the feeble mind’s attempt to express itself. I have a feeble mind so I curse. Is that okay with you?

I’m your man. Talk to me. I know more about camper vans than Leibniz knew about monads.

You want a Volkswagon, trust me. Now we need only to determine which one is right for you. Please privide a small list of preferences and itemize which options you consider priority.

Ow , Colorado has some tough laws . They don’t have that here in MS. or in AZ. where I got my firsts. Man that has to make hanging out tough on kids.

good for you sarax

but just remember that your ford fiesta is only ugly if you think it is (I do)
but obviously you don’t
second-hand cars have character and ugly cars have style
so look at it this way…your car has character and style!! so you got that going for you, which is nice!

yeah and about what detrop said…I know what Sammy Hager is talking about, I really cant drive fifty-five!!! :evilfun: (well you know what i mean)
if your looking for me I’ll be the white Jeep Grand Cherokee flying by you on the highway at 90 to 110 mph. :sunglasses:
watch out though cause driving can be expensive if you like driving fast.
keep it conservative, thats definitley the safest and most economical way to do it.
good luck!
I’m willing to bet 50 bucks that based on the fact that you are a new, young, female driver…
that you will get into at least one ‘parking related accident’ or ‘slow-moving fender bender’ in the next 3 months. :stuck_out_tongue:

any takers?

No problem, just found it rather amusing.

Oh I know what im looking for. I cant put a name to it, but its like this:
http://www.motorhoming.com/VW%20Camper.jpg

All im looking for is a place to sleep, some storage etc… all in a van. I reckon I can get a second hand one for £1000 - £1500. I dont know what the insurance for vans is like though
Oh yeah… and windows… it needs plenty of windows and light.

That looks like a late eighties model vanagon or campmobile with an extended top, which is different than the westfalia. The major differences between the two are these:

The vanagon has the fixed upper bunk shell, where the westfalia has the collapsing pop-top. The bunk size is the same in each, but the vanagon’s fixed shell is extremely heavy, causing strain on the engine, wind resistence, and bad gas mileage. I would definitely exclude the fixed upper shell.

I can’t tell by the picture, but I don’t see a stove or sink cabinet in the van. The westfalias have a sink and fourteen gallon capacity internal water tank, with the option to recieve an external water source with a hose fitting. The pump runs of the battery when the vehicle is off, and the alternator when it is on.

The westfalias also have a refrigerator and range stove. The frig runs off either the battery or propane compression (condensation), while the stove runs off propane. There are two elements on the range.

There are also electrical hook-ups on the van, which allows the van to recieve external electrical sources, although the van does not produce its own electricity for outlet use.

I could be mistaken though, I just can’t tell from that angle which model the van is, so it just might be a westfalia.

Basically you should choose between the camp-mobile and the westfalia, and remember that only the westfalias have the appliances in them. Camp-mobiles only have bunks and a few cabinets.

If you are hardcore, get a “Wolfsburg” edition, which is like the cadillac of westfalias. Its interior is spectacular…nicer than many houses I have been in.

Price wise your going to spend big no matter what, because the volkswagons are collectors vehicles and anybody who is selling one in decent shape is going to ask for much more than the blue-book price.

I bought mine, which is an 84 Wolfsburg, with 87,000 miles on it and a rebuilt engine for almost seven thousand.

So if you are going to do it, do it right. Don’t try to save a buck by buying one in only “decent” shape. If these vans are not taken care of several problems can happen around 150,000 miles, so buy one that was loved.

They are infamous for cracked heads and overheating, so be sure to get a model that is water-cooled. All the vans made after 83 are water-cooled. Try to get a manual trasmission too. Better gas mileage and cheaper service on the transmission if you need it.

Wait!

Its not a westfalia. I can tell now. I didn’t notice that the driver is on the other side (european) the first time.

How I know is because the flue-vent for the stove and the appliance hook-ups are always on the drivers side…and there are none on this van.

Still a nice van, though. But the gas tank appears to be on the drivers side and in the back. That’s weird.

have you hijacked my car thread to talk about vans… you are missing the point. we have to talk about interesting and exciting things I can do in my car…
