Identical Identities

Is identity related to the mind?

Hello. I think your premiss is wrong - if we take the empirical view that all conscious beings arise from particular arragements of atoms, and if it’s true that there are 10^80 atoms in the universe, then the total number of theoretically possible beings is finite (although unimaginably big).

Does this solve anything?

Does this solve anything?

‘Common wisdom’ also told us that the earth was the center of the universe. We are looking at the universe from a very limited perspective; what may be common in our eyes doesn’t determine what is possible in general.

What is the difference between a person’s identity and a person’s life?

There is a difference; one has a past.

I’m not sure how you can talk about identity without specifying what you think ‘identity’ means.

We have different perceptions.

If an identity is just a distinction in experience, then we’re obviously not of the same identity, since we have different experiences. Right? It’s hard to give you a full answer though, since I can’t tell what you mean–I don’t see a coherent flow of thought.

I dont understand.

That doesn’t make sense. If having a separate identity is having a different experience, and we all have different experiences, then we all have separate identities.

Interesting

Quantum teleportation has been performed on a human being?? Give us a link!

You’re right that one quanta of mass-energy is indistinguishable from the next, but we can’t introduce a new one or destroy an existing one.

What about teleportation.

What is an identity?

I like to think of it as a thread of distinction that runs through time.

In this respect you have to choose how to identify something, I think this leads to infinite ways to identify any one thing.
