Then what is death? A state of life? Death IS a state of non-life.

I took your advice and looked it up. This is what I found after 2 minutes of searching:

“Death is either the cessation of life in a living organism or the state of the organism after that event.” I also found this …

“The absence of life or state of being dead.”

So you see, death is the termination of AND the absense of life. When there is complete absense of something that is its opposite.

Murdoc, maybe there are diffirent definitions in diffirent places, where did you find yours? I went to dictionary.com… The number 1 definition is “the termination of life” Like I said, with this definition, and my own previous understanding of death, life can only be terminated if it at one point existed. Ok, let me clarify. Death IS a state of non-life. But a state of non-life is not neccisarily death. Its like a square and a rectangle in that Death is included in the bigger set of non-life like a square is included in the bigger set of rectangles. A square is a specific type of rectangle, just like death is a specific type of non-life. So space, if theres no life in it, is a state of non-life. But it cant be said to be dead, unless you can prove it was once alive. Again, this is all going by the dictionary.com definition, if you have found other legitimate sources for your definition, then I guess death isnt all that well defined…

Yes I understand what you are trying to get across. What you speak of (i.e. a rock) isn’t alive or dead at any time, you are right. This has nothing to do with what we are talking about. Because the rock was never alive or dead it makes itself irrelvant to all things that do experience life and death. Its in another category.
