What should we think about that?

What should we think about that?
I think the only plausible solution that would satisfy this guy is for young men and women who are considering joining the military, to decide not to instead.
His anger seems to be mostly aimed at the abuse military personnel have to endure both in the field and at home. He’s right, it happens. Soldiers are given very little respect.
In the field, a lot of this comes with the territory. Soldiers sometimes need to be abandoned for tactical reasons, I think. It isn’t often a case of the government just not caring about them or acting incompetently. There is usually a reason which isn’t known, a reason which must be for the purpose of preventing greater liabilities of some kind.
However, I think his fear of terrorism is misguided. There will never be a substantial terrorist attack on American soil… I mean an attack that would have profound effects. Something on the scale of the two towers is as bad as it will ever get. The infrastructure of the U.S. government is too strong to ever be compromised by any homeland security issues or terrorist acts. This issue with Islam will always be concentrated in the middle east… it will never reach American soil with any thrust or power. Once in a while you’ll get a radical American convert that shoots up a church or something, but that’s it.
This dude is gung-ho, though, for sure. If martial law were declared and the government ever DID collapse, I’d contact this dude and work with him to try and re-establish some kind of order.
Why exactly should soldiers be respected to begin with?
Because they put their life and limb in jeopardy for an ideal, that’s why. They fight so you don’t have to. In many cultures of old the soldier was held in the highest regard, in some cases having administrative power even over the ruling class. Look at ancient Sparta; the soldier had the highest rank.
I can’t believe you would even ask that question, LM. For shame! A society is nothing without first having a strong military. Everything else follows from that.
Somebody should invite this dude to ILP so we can stop him from becoming a Timothy McVeigh. This dude should be paying a mortgage and raising a family, not toting guns around. He doesn’t understand the scope and power of the U.S. and its allies. Islam is not a real threat and never will be, nor will there ever be a pure communistic society. Capitalism, the last stage (see Fukuyama) of economic evolution, is here to stay and will continue to expand indefinitely. This is because it is the natural expression of the social, human dynamic that governs our material relations. It is the perfect blend of social darwinism, altruism, and democracy. The strongest survive but they don’t kill anyone in the process… they only exploit them economically. That’s how it should be.
That dude needs to be ordered to counseling.
They fight and die for stupid ideals.
They fight and die for an international oligarchy or tyrannical system.
These are not individuals that garnish my respect but instead my complete disdain.
Let them die or suffer. I care not.
The problem here is this man has passion for his country and believed the reason to fight for it was honourable.
Unfortunately, he found out it was all a lie.
Disillusionment is a bitter pill to swallow.
He can choose to allow it to eat him from the inside out until his death or he can learn from it. It’s up to him alone.
I accept that, but
I think men who return from combat, should at least be deprogrammed. Is it not the Government’s responsibility, no, duty to do so.
This soldier is not an isolated case.
Ex-military are the most dangerous type of citizen a nation can have (toward itself). It suits the purpose of a government to leave them permanently damaged and disabled.
We need a reason to disarm the citizenry.
The perfect scapegoating…
Damaged mercenaries and pawns of .gov will suffice or any other staged event to create need.
The vanity sacrifice en - masse of a Jeffrey Dahmer, is behind the anger old men feel, at being displaced. They are internall resentful, and sacrifice their young men so as to vitiate their hidden homoerotically embedded jeolousy.
