If you seek to know God like I have done in my life,
then start your pursuit where His trail of footprints end,
for you will be following your destiny.
If you seek to know God like I have done in my life,
then begin to be the devil instead,
for he is more real than God.
If you seek to know God like I have done in my life,
then appear to be friends with God,
for God is a fool that must be killed.
If you seek to know God like I have done in my life,
then hide where the devil resides,
for God will seek to find you.
If you seek to know God like I have done in my life,
then deceive God himself,
for you will then become like God.
I cannot simply take sides with devils or gods. But I know this: my suffering resulting from the war between them produces greatnesses of which I may someday take hold.
There is a saying that we have an angel on one shoulder and a devil on the other.
Both speak to us at different times, and perhaps at times, in unison. Perhaps it is in “recognizing” that we have both that we are able to see ourselves more clearly in our dualistic nature, and then in sitting in simple awareness of both these natures, without the struggling, we may be able to combine both energies and re-create our heart.
I read the Brothers Karamazov, one of my all time favorites and so is Dostoyevsky. Now there was a philosopher.
Perhaps I would probably say also that "the wonderful thing about beauty is that it is also mysterious. It depends on one’s own perception and there are as many perceptions in the universe as there are individuals.
That all depends on whether you only have two neatly divided sets of inclinations: one which are always speaking to your benefit, the other always speaking to your harm. I’d say when you start considering several options for the future, you have a host of voices at your ear. The Brand New saying “God and devil are raging inside me” is dualistic only for the convenience of not having to list a metaphorical Greek pantheon instead.
I agree. It’s funny how ‘literature’ and ‘philosophy’ are so distanced in academia.
