ILP history

so i was going through ancient 2 year old ILP posts and i see guys like:kube, kesh, basta da ord, kasey, theoryofexist, etc.

these guys are no longer around. Ben is the only one still around that i saw of that particular post.

Are we all doomed to get bored of ILP and move on?
i see constantly the affirmation that ILP is one of OR the best forum out there, ether stated or between the lines.

So what do you all think? will you last a year here? how many have been here 1 or more years? just seemed like a whole new ball-game back then.
Like time travel :astonished: . (a good point is it’s always recorded at ILP)

Yep

I’ll be gone one day

I fucking better be.

We all have our reasons for coming and going.
In a few years, there will be a total turnover here
and some body will ask the same question you did.
It is the way of life. Change, change, change and then
just for good measure, change. that is the name of the game.

I dunno, I might still be here in 10 years, teaching newbies about deconstruction and having pun wars with Impenitent…

Hello F(r)iends,

I’ll probably pop in often until they ban my ass!
That by no means is a suggestion guys…

I will have been here two years this april. It was very different back then. ILP had a whole different set of characters. People who I thought would never leave are now gone (i.e. Rafa, Smooth, Pax Vitae, etc.).

I’ve even been here longer than some of the moderators. :sunglasses: :stuck_out_tongue:

I will remain here as long as ILP continues to offer a few basic things:

  1. A decent place to talk about philosophy in a relatively "non-political enviroment.

  2. A place that is populated by good-intented members who come here to share their thoughts and ideas.

Like all communities, people move in, people move out. Our interests change, our enthusiasm waxes and wanes, and that seems to be the pattern. I suspect as long as one is experiencing personal growth from the association, then there is a tendency to stay. The other possibilities are either too stupid or too lazy to leave… :astonished:

I’m still waiting for the village idiot nomination thread. I’m sure I’ll gather enough votes. Then I can settle back in the shade of the 'ol chestnut tree and rest on my … uhhhh, laurels. :stuck_out_tongue:

i have returned to answer my own question.

i lost interest at the boring repetitious arguments that never seemed resolved.or resolvable. that and boring posts.

yes , as membership changes, forums really DO change in themselves.

At this point having experienced and come to a conclusion to most if no all the common philosophy jive,i’m just content to hang around at any forum that appreciates me.

I really did grow here though. I’m not sure it’d be appropriate to post links to the forums I’m at now though.

I’ll be hear until I die, or I can’t afford to pay my internet bill (In the future), or I get so busy with life I forget about it…or my books sales go so high you’re all reading me! hahahah! =D>

ILP is quite a nice internet HOUSE!

One year down, Drift- how many to go? We will all stay here so long as we still enjoy it.

exactly. and it’s interesting to have posts dated so as to vividly see the extreme change the test of make makes too.

Drift, the following words are the most important words you will ever read on the internet:

All forums, at the end of the day and when the music is over, will have done nothing but made a profit for advertisers and/or site owners.

People leave a forum with precisely what they came there with: nothing.

All that is real is the physical advantage gained by the owners and adverts that were present at the forum. One might say “the history of forum X was the process of the owner/adverts of/on forum X using the forum as another means to exert as little energy as possible to put food into their gullet and rims on their car.”

If this doesn’t happen, it isn’t because the owners/adverts wanted to provide a forum for free, but because they failed at their objective; to make money.

Philosophy is dead. Now click that cosmetic link above and buy your girlfriend something nice.

I disagree with Detrop.

You take away from internet fora as much as you are willing to. I am a much, much better homebrewer because of fora that I would be without. My philosoph is much stronger because of fora than it would be without.

I would not be half the Confucian I am today if it weren’t for some people on ILP. The people who have helped me grow most were either ardent Daoists or hardcore Christians.

My philosophy of science would not be half what it is now if it weren’t for a particularly ardent hume-ist agnostic.

Heck, a sino-Neitzschean helped me reconsile some issues I had with Confucianism by making me confront them.

These are very good things, in my mind. I’m an advocate of harmony, not argone, but the occasional bit of argone can help me.

You take as much as you are willing to.

You always disagree with me man.

Damn you.

It is how I get my jubblies man.

Besides, you can’t expect a Confucian, no matter how socialist his leanings are, to agree with a marxist. Come on, let’s be realistic here.

[edited]

girlfriend? but seriously could you expand on how philosophy is dead?
(please forgive me for asking as i have been on this forum for quite a while)but do you mean classic philosophy or what? That it can’t make any progress in these ages or what?

Ha!

We’re all elsewhere getting to know one another better.

Drift, find any philosophical theory, google it, and you will find a counter theory of equal size and importance. This means that the wheels are turning but the car isn’t going anywhere. And yet these philosophers are getting paid to write such nonsense. Either the modern philosophers are incompetent, or lying. Either way, they make a paycheck while they should be shoveling shit.

Behind this nonsense there is science which is actually making progress.

Philosophy is, as Hawkings once put it, entertainment for failed scientists.

No you’re not. You’re waiting to have your posts edited by the mystery nerd, like they are here. Only a matter of time. Somebody logged into Uniqor’s account recently, I hear. Seems like we have some kind of experiment going on and being conducted by the administrators.

I’ll begin looking for hackers again. I’m also gonna look into tracking residence addresses through the system so I can find the mystery nerd and…well, nevermind.
