I'm surprised...

that no one has mentioned Nancy Pelosi lately. She’s lying through her teeth, hurting her party, and pissing off Obama for no sane reason. She has fought him every step of the way - and that’s dangerous enough with a wildly popular president. Now she’s trying to submarine his plan to leave sleeping dogs lie.

I say she’s gone within weeks. Serious meltdown. She’s a fuckin’ idiot.

the queen has no clothes

it’s coming around…

I still don’t know why she brought the CIA into this.

I know she’s currently blathering, but still…

Maybe power is getting to her head.

She’s an idiot, that’s why. She’s bucking Obama, which at this point is stupid. If there was anything to what she is saying, the odds are great that Panetta would cop to it. But the odds were just as great that if she was lying, he would send an unequivocal message that she’s full of shit, which he did. He didn’t have too much choice.

So, the Republicans are pissed, because her statements increase the risk of a truth commission, which she wants but soon may rue. The Dems are pissed, because the last thing they need is a scandal and a change at Speaker (although there are a few who wouldn’t mind). Obama wants to just let it go - at least as far as political figures can be involved. If the DoJ slams someone, so be it. But O is right when he says we don’t need months of C-Span grandstanding about a fait accompli that won’t happen again on O’s watch, anyway.

She fucked up, and seemingly will continue to fuck up. I can see that from the cheap seats. One wonders why she cannot. I think she’s loony.

She seems rattled. Maybe that’s what all this preemption on her part is all about. She’s probably not sure where she’ll stand when this ball gets rolling. What she fails to realize is that she’s the one leaning on the ball. Very odd.

Oh. She’s playing Chicken with the CIA. Good move. She thinks she can get some wiggle room by trying to get out in front of the spin. I think if O was really an ally, this might have some chance. But I don’t believe that is the case.

I don’t get into politics too much. But it’s interesting to see such a powerful person self-destruct.

It’s a fascinating study.

I’m not sure what makes these guys think it’s okay to make the CIA their bitch. I mean, the last administration was brutal. Just because they are neither partisan nor a bunch of squealers doesn’t necessarily make them everybody’s punching bag. I don’t even understand why she’s trying to save her own hide (at least it seems that way). This whole incident pretty much swept up everybody in high office, actually most people in government were party to a certain degree otherwise the war in Iraq would not have happened, so bailing right now just looks ridiculous. To say they didn’t know anything, well… I guess you just have to press the self destruct button at this time and hope your semantics hold up. It’s almost painful to watch, but hey, a car wreck is a car wreck.

I like the way the White House is playing it cool.

Yeah, that’s the thing. If she takes her lumps, she takes them with everybody else. No real harm done. Maybe she thinks she can isolate Bush and Cheney this way, but everyone really already knows their role. I think O has his finger on the pulse of the electorate - we fucked up in Iraq, now let’s move on, cuz we have some pressing problems. We tend to want to make our own gardens grow after these periodic international misadventures, anyway. If there ever was a time to “get domestic”, it’s now.

The White House is cool. There’s no percentage in getting involved, and they know it. Barney Frank would be Speaker right now if it weren’t for that little matter of his D.C. crib being used as a brothel. Maybe O thinks people will be okay with that, now. I think he’d get along with Frank much better. Frank is much more of a legislative operative (wonk) than an ideologue, despite his rhetoric and reputation. I’m less sure about his chances than I am about Pelosi’s. I don’t think she’s got a shot in Dick Cheney’s basement to stay in power.

See, that’s that thing, she can’t really isolate Cheney and this is partly why she is looking ridiculous. Cheney is not an idiot. He knew full well that if he carried through with these mandates and protocols, heads were liable to roll. He roped everyone one in automatically instantiating collusion while simultaneously undermining their deniability. Like you said, everyone knows their role.

I’m sure if they just muzzle (much like the White House is doing right now) and let the DOJ do their job, things will sort themselves out. Moving on at this time seems like the best move, but I doubt the talking heads, ideological political constructs, and whatever dregs seek the limelight are ready to put this horse down. I mean, I understand that following through with this might help serve as warning to future leaders, but why not concentrate on preventative legislation … oh, wait a minute, we had that only to see it obliterated. Crap! This is a friggin’ catch 22.

I like the domestic concept and I think the President is trying to follow through on that, but it’s not as exciting. People want blood. They want real blood, as induced by the media. While domestic is the most import aspect at this time, it just doesn’t have all that jazz, so the President has to keep a cool head and trudge through this short attention span, media addled collective.

Oddly enough it seems this cyclical politicians vs. media construct is the main problem. The networks sensationalize while politicians spin. It would be nice to see media outlets keep our leaders in line without going so overboard as to create this unattainable moral ethical edifice bent on destroying anything resembling a human foible (that dude the President chose to run the health and human services comes to mind – Tom Daschle was it?). I’m sure people can reform, can’t they? Let’s move on.

Frank. I love Barney Frank. He’s amusing to watch. The name Barney suits him perfectly. I still don’t picture him as a pimp, but then again, he is in politics. If he was, he would be a lovable pimp. He’s so bubbly when he bumbles. That aside, he has his wits about him.

And this too shall pass.

I just think Pelosi will pass.

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: Pelosi should have stepped down long ago. Failing that, Obama should have asked her to step down after he won. She was the most tepid ‘opposition’ imaginable. Fuck her.

I think O can’t wait to get rid of her. But he can just sit there and watch it happen, now.

As I was out of town for the last week and the two weeks before, I worked many unholy hours,
I seemed to have missed the whole pelosi affair, for which I am grateful. For those of us old enough,
we can remember many a scandal that “rock” the world, only to be forgotten by the end of the month.
Does anybody remember blaze star? or perhaps, fanny fox or Elisabeth Ray? How about Iran-contra for
which ronald reagan should have been impeached. DC has been home to many events of scandal, stupidity
and foot in mouth disease.

I live next to pelosi home district and nobody really care’s about it. San Francisco is home of
running people out of office and no one cares. And if no one in her district care’s, why should you?
If it is important enough, she will be voted out of office. End of story.

This is simply a he said, she said. And the truth, as always lies in the middle.

Personally I would vote her out of office, but because she is not a very good speaker of the house. I would
vote Reid out of office also, but he from Nevada, so I don’t have much chance there.

Kropotkin

The CIA lies, thats what they do.
How dare Pelosi question/doubt the “terror fighters at the CIA” What a krok o’ sh!t! Such emotional appeal and fallacy is SOP for the republikkkans!
The sleeping dogs are rabid, have bitten, and should be put down (to gain any credibility at all). Thats what the nazis said, “I was just following orders…”.
As far as i am concerned, Obama has no credibility letting the torturers and the Bush criminal regime to go unprosecuted and punished. Pathetic. Obama is proving no more honest or ethical than Bush. And a coward to boot!

Oh well, lets let sleeping dogs lie. Its water under the bridge, just, move on…
(or ‘Big Dick’ Cheney might shoot him in the face!)

Nameless - if we allowed everyone in government and the military to follow their own conscience, we’d be fucked for sure.

Peter -

Not always.

You know, Faust, I don’t think that we’d necessarily be “fucked for sure”. I don’t think that there is enough ‘evidence’ to draw such conclusions. It might be an interesting gedanken experiment, though.
It can also be seen that we are “fucked” Now! and that fucking up the fuckedness of our already fucked condition would only be seen as fucked by the fuckers that are profiting and thriving from the present fucked-upped-ness and not from the Perspective of the fucked!

Actually, I don’t give any credit to the (vain) notion of ‘free-will/choice’, so the question of having a ‘choice’ in ones behavior/thoughts/words… is moot.
We can only ‘manifest’ our nature, as it is, Now! and Now!
