In Praise of Sloth

The trouble with humanity is it produces and consumes excessively.

This is because it’s infatuated with itself.

We believe we’re Midas, that everything we touch turns to gold.

Wrong! Everything we touch turns to shit, so why do we insist on tampering, tinkering and toying with every little thing?

Keep your fucking hands to yourselves!

I propose a remedy.

The cure for what ails us is to give into our natural sloth.

Everything follows from that. Once we don’t want to work hard for a living, or at all, we’ll either consume and produce less, which will save ourselves and Gaia since what we consume and produce is rubbish, or we’ll begin killing one another for what we desire, because no one will want to do the hard work. It doesn’t matter whether the communists win or the fascists, so long as one of them does (or we perpetuate the warn indefinitely), and capitalism ends, because capitalism is what’s kill us, more than any of the others, capitalism kills, it promises peace and prosperity, but in the long run, resources will be depleted, which will inevitably lead to greater tyrannies and wars later on, which very well may lead to the death and destruction of the Gaia herself, if not the cosmos, if one of these wretched, despicable creatures (manimals) should escape.

So give in, it’s for the good of yourself and Gaia, mooch off others, shoplift, tell yourself you’re good, you’re worth it. Good doesn’t have to be earned, at least the conventional way. The ones telling you to earn it are slaving you, they leech off your labor but they themselves produce nothing, it’s a terrible trick, a rouse dreamt up by the most fiendish, mischievous, psychopathic and sociopathic motherfuckers of them all, so fight back, kill em all, take whatever you can carry, keep nothing from your heart, or live in squalor if you like, destitution.

These days a man can live on the internet, he doesn’t need to work fulltime, he doesn’t need a woman, he can watch porn, he can busy himself with blogs, forums and youtube for hours on end. Why travel when you can experience authentic African, Asian and European cuisine and culture in your own backyard? Why pay thousands of dollars, get stuck on a fucking airplane for a half a day, expose yourself to radically different climates ones body are unaccustomed to, climates with all sorts of filth and pathogens, when you can go on Wikipedia instead and learn all about them from the comfort of your own home?

Why not go for a stroll, explore your own backyard on foot more thoroughly? What the hell is the point of slaving all year 'round so you can “enjoy” (assuming you can get over all the stress of packing, planning and traveling) yourself for a week or two? Instead, why not explore your own state, or the state next door, and toil less? The USC is so interesting, each state is like its own country, is its own country. You don’t have to go half way round the world and spend a ton of money to enjoy yourself. Traveling for most is just an excuse to binge eat and drink anyway, they don’t care for architecture, culture, history or any of that, they just want to get loaded, wasted. You can do that shit in your own backyard, yah fuck, so fuck your traveling, you just do it to “distinguish” yourself.

Not to mention you have to deal with locals and their envy, or burglars back home, not to mention its beneficial for Gaia, which is being poisoned by emissions automobiles and planes produce. I say spend all day on the internet, and if you really, truly need something, go out and take it, give into your slothful envy. Travel is just one of the many examples of how unnecessary all this crap is, along with all your toys, and all your activities, it’s just an excuse for capitalists and corporatists to hoard wealth, the masses have to be duped into consuming and producing crap, because they refuse to throw us a bone, so I say fuck all that, embrace your sloth, live in poverty, which is wealthy by todays standards, or rob the rich if you think you can get away with it.

What we need is class, racial and religious warfare, or warfare on an individual or local or level, rather than this pseudo-warfare capitalism has swindled us all with. We need more Gods and Goddesses so we can fight over them, there’s too few Gods and Goddesses out there, we need to invent or revive some.

You are infatuated with yourself, it is evident. But then you have something that is brilliant.

This seems to be all you trying to convince yourself that you have no values and are therefore powerful - valuable in terms of what you believe in. That’s why I can only interpret this as a campfire you make out of disbanded logs of thought.

I sincerely advise you join Humanarchy and post in Great Health.
I would not advise this if I would not value your contributions greatly. I realize it’s a slim chance you’ll go for it but, not giving a fuck about your contempt, I value your intellectual potential to affect and to be affected. Where I do not see you as a philosopher (and thus don’t think you are in a position to judge me) I do think that you will become one if you overcome the infatuation with sickliness and unlock the thyroid and pineal glands so as to stabilize and substantialize the pituitary.

Thank you.

Actually, I don’t view myself as necessarily better or worse than anyone.

I think my gifts are unique as well as my flaws.

Of course I could be wrong about myself, I have doubts.

I value things, but perhaps not the way you do.

I think the trouble with humanity is it values things absolutely.

Capitalism is the ultimate expression of humanities collective narcissism.

If all is in a state of flux, then nothing can have absolute value, only relative, temporary value, but humanity seems to think it can ascend forever, or indefinitely, it seems to think it can overcome nature and attain perfection. It may look like I’ve opted for no values, but it’s just that my values are more, ephemeral.

I sincerely believe, at least partially, that humanity has undervalued sloth, which, in a more philosophical as opposed to physiological sense, is, not necessarily the absence of valuing, but being a little or a lot more ambivalent and apathetic about things. Pursue what you value, sure, but don’t overvalue humanity or its activities, don’t deify humanity the way capitalism, does.

Thank you for the invitation, I may or may not take you up on it.

I’m a sloth.

I produce lots, but not at the expense of the environment. I don’t share much, but only because I rarely see reason to.

I live off very little and don’t expect much. I don’t take shit from others, if I need something, I’ll earn it in a traditional way, even if I think it’s slavery. I don’t mind sacrificing my time for the opportunity to get back to living how I value.

As for war, I don’t care for it. I’m busy doing my own shit.

Everything we touch turns to shit?

Value is relative to life. Beyond us, it’s all neutral, so to everything else, all we’re doing is mixing shit up. No harm, no benefit.

You do it to acquaint yourself with other perspectives, so you can appreciate what you do have, and to see what you’re missing. It’s part of learning about yourself, too, and where you fit in this world. Learning about a place online is not the same, because you, yourself, are not engaged in it, in real life. It doesn’t really affect you, because it’s virtual. There is no risk. You can gain a more ‘objective’ view through books and other media, true, but because it’s less subjective in the sense that you’re not personally, physically interacting with it, it’s less likely to have an effect on you. If you prefer a detached (factual) learning experience about the world then that’s fine. You may even come to different and yet still valid conclusions.
Exploring your own backyard is a great idea, there are a lot of people who live for decades in the same place and don’t even know their own state.

That’s true, globalization has made travel easier, and not just for tourists but also for migrant workers seeking job opportunities. Travel-wise, today’s degree of mixing of different populations globally is unprecedented in history. I’m actually thinking a super bug pandemic may be a real possibility in the future. In that case, I think you’ll probably be safe, and your sloth may save you.

Or maybe not.

Joe, Pandora, in the main, we’re in agreement.

Nihilism doesn’t work as well for you as it does for others.

I don’t care what “works” for me, as in, what makes me appealing to you, or at least it’s of secondary importance. I’m not a performer, this isn’t a performance, this is my life. Are you interested in reality, or in being entertained?

Entertainment please.
