Independence Day Today

How many of us today would pledge again our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor in the defense of freedom? How many even know who did make such a pledge, or what happened to them, or even wonder what honor is? Even though I value my honor, and have risked my life in freedom’s defense, I can’t say that I would risk my “fortune”, my legacy for my posterity, much less their lives for it. Am I spoiled? Am I a summer soldier and a sunshine patriot? Is this to be our epitaph?:

If people weren’t spoiled by now the original sacrifice wouldn’t have been of much use.
In the times where people had to fight for their freedom, there was considerably less of it than there is now. If every generation would have to make equally great sacrifices for the freedom of their posterity - what freedom would the fight be for?

If some crisis came about and I was asked to serve again, I wouldn’t. This country has been standing on the backs of broken people for too long. I welcome it’s fall.

Say whatever you want, freely.

Just don’t dare do anything about it, freely.

I’ll do something about it freely, if you pay me enough.

Happy July 4th!
