In the US people Sue God and the Devil all the time, occasionally a judge even gives in humorously and waits to see if they show up.
I have never heard of a case where the suit was flipped over by zealots in a effort to get someone disbarred, who did it to make a political and ideological statement.
I take this as evidence India is far too intolerant, and unworthy of a permanent UN Security Council Vote. Far more difficult cases come before the UN, the fate of entire nations come on the line. I don’t think that the most intolerant nation on earth, one that persecutes people intolerantly for intolerance of all things, in the name of a religious harmony that can’t possibly exist under such a harsh and backwards legal mindset, should be judging the fate of the nations.
I advocate instead that Indians immediately drop their UN bid right now, and reinstitute Jury Trials. It will cut down on the corruption considerably, empower the nation, and encourage civil mindset in the population. People will be more aware of right and wrong, and can better direct their Democratic priorities, instead of dictating it to a corrupt insensitive few old men shaking a stick at the people, telling them to respect one another.
50 years of this, then India can be welcomed to join the UN Security Council. You don’t get to join just because your a large country, or feel you need the glamour esteem. You gotta earn that responsibility… and it is a responsibility, not merely grown up clothing. Its why Brazil will never have it, it has a infantile mindset, refuses to help other nations. India sometimes help, but we don’t want to export the mindset of backwards intolerance in the name of harmony onto the world stage. The world is much better off without it. Once India become internally sound, it will be externally sound. A country needs great military strength, as well as great principles to be in the UN Security Council. It will be called to judge mad nations, and expected to provide substantial aid to fulfill such rulings. Is India ready for that level of maturity? The reactions against cases of free speech, such as this case, suggests it is not.
Ram was a big guy, he can take care of himself, people don’t need to Sue in defense of him, as if he is powerless to defend himself. Be much better on focusing on turning India into a functional democracy than to pursue such embarrassments. It only makes India look more backwards in the eyes of the world. Anything and everything Modi did to gain international esteem, just died in this display of high intolerance. Shameful.
