Internet connected cameras in your home

Just read an article (sorry for no link) about testing and research now dedicated to installing cameras in cable boxes, something people sit in front of, sleep in front of.

Are you uncomfortable with this?

Hackers would no doubt tinker with this technology.
Billion dollar companies are acting in collusion with government agencies. (AT@T wiretapping)

I imagine this will be offered as something benificial to consumers, like GPS in phones. Maybe you’d like to wink at the TV to change the channel. But will you want your facial expressions to be studied in conjunction with what you are watching and hearing at that moment?

Was 1984 an instruction manual?

I tend to think it’s best to act as if someone was watching you all the time anyway.

If this is being developed, and for something as sinister as you’re suggesting I only take comfort in the fact that it would be nigh impossible fore anyone to process all that information, unless they were specifically focusing on you for some reason. Which they can already do today if they wish.

They might be able to continue picking up audio, but a piece of black tape solves the camera issue. Both the hackers and the government can suck eggs. Simple solution.

I like most are just not that interesting. Can you imagine a job where you have to watch bugger picking crotch scratching, food slurping and snoring in all their varieties? Sounds like a high suicide rated job or postal. Yet, sadly there are those happy to spy on others. So I do think it is happening.

The amount of information to be combed over is presently a problem for overseers, but to be sure, computers will be assigned the task and do it quickly. Facial recognition, object recognition, micro expresssions, thermal imagining (adrenline blood flow) will be analysed by computers, coupled with instructions to look for specific things.

When you think you’re not special enough to be tracked, you’re right, the ones doing the spying feel the most special.

You didn’t really say anything right there…

Easy solution: don’t watch cable.

Here are the benefits of pirating your shows or purchasing your shows in dvd format if you’re not into pirating: Everything you watch you’ve deliberately decided to watch. So, you’ve cut out everything that you only watch because it’s on – there’s nothing that’s ‘just on’ anymore, every show is a deliberate decision to watch. So (a) you’re watching a lot less, and (b) the quality of the stuff you watch is a lot higher. Also, if you pirate it’s free! Plus, no cameras watching you (except of course the webcam connected to your computer…)

Stoic: Dismissive for no reason

Flannel: First it’s dont own a cable box, then it’s don’t go anywhere.

Sometimes the amount of indifference is staggering.

Hey, I’m not saying don’t own a cable box out of fear of cameras. I’m saying don’t own a cable box anyway, because it’s at least slightly better to actively seek your entertainment than to passively let it come to you, and fear of being watched is just an added prod to that.

I’m not indifferent, it totally sucks if the govt is intruding on the privacy of others. I’m just sayin’ cable sucks anyway.

'Course, I am kinda indifferent, but only because obviously this is what we get when we want a powerful and meddling government. You can’t have your cake and eat it too. You can’t get your big-government with the good and not the bad. You want a big government…you got it. Be careful what you wish for.

Not to worry. The hackers will find a software app that redirects the signal to the camera of an endless loop of I Love Lucy re-runs. I still think the piece of black tape solves the problem. Duct Tape! The redneck solution to everything!

What are you getting so defensive for?

Lol Americans.

oooh smart phone plugged in duct taped to camera playing reruns of Friends.

I see why SIATDv2 likes you now…

If people at ILP don’t care, then I don’t expect others to think much about it.

Who said we didn’t care?

Your comments.

This is retarded.

Thanks for your input…

Okay then. (Although my orignal call will always be for no government) Besides, a big government that offers an open sharing society would be better than the one sided collection of info.

I’m all set with watching TV on my computer unless I have to. Smart TV’s will probably offer the more narrow, higher valued selection you’re talking about. But carmeras will probably come with those too. If I don’t get one in protest, then I probably wouldn’t want to walk into anybody’s house or establishment that had one either. Talk about a tight squeeze.

And to the black tapers, it remains to be seen if you will have to point your remote beam past black tape obstruction.
