Why do straw men exist?
The passions of a human being encourage quick judgemental attitudes. We also rely on our passions for motivation through life.
On the other hand, a guy like me is on chill pills, and I am not as quick to judge, even though I feel lifeless in allot of ways.

Almost all the stuff guys on ILP are trying to refute: those things are like straw men towards reality and nature.
Miss-representation: It’s like the biggest problem in internet philosophy.
I guess we assume everything is as it appears, and of course we live in a conformist society, where you have to dress a certain way or people will consider you subhuman.

Life is a house of mirrors. The “self” can easily distort our reflection.
The answer is consciousness presiding over the subconscious.
Consciousness is logical, reasonable, and benevolent, when compared to the subconscious and unconscious, which are more primitive and destructive.

Anonymous posting is a big reason for it. Think about it, a person can declare something today and never have to face arguments they don’t want to. They will not see the others face to face ever so it is not “real”. It is easy to be wrong, cheat, lie, be an ass when you do not have to face anyone.Strawman arguments are easy and since the people you use them on will never meet you, your dignity, intellect, ego remains untouched.

Are you implying that high-profile people do not create strawmen?

The reason strawmen are included in the list of fallacies is that they are effective. If something is not obviously enough one’s enemy, make it appear so. Politicians? Though arguably they do not have to face the people that they target, but only to simply persuade from a pedestal. And they ought to expect to be controversial in their “reasoning” - a very effective crowd pleaser.

Sil, he was talking about online.
But, when you use strawman you tend to have an exit plan or think you do, it is in a vague way a type of anonymity or hide and seek.

Sometimes, it’s the other way around, and consciousness only thinks it’s in control. The subconscious/unconscious is full of tricks to bypass conscious awareness and have its way. It gets you when you least expect it.

Strawmen. Sometimes in a trial a lawyer will say things. The other lawyer will object. The judge will agree, but the jury has already heard what the first lawyer said.

On a more true level of appearances, the subconscious and unconscious is the creator of consciousness. The automaticness of nature is what gives us our so-called free will and so-called sentience.

I think most strawmen are accidents. But you can purposefully use misrepresentation in political propaganda for example, to make other parties look like sh-t.

Miss-representation comes in multiple forms.
The most common form is when we make improper assumptions.
Only life can show you what proper and improper thinking is.
It’s quite hard to teach it, or show it, as it spans our whole life.
The categorical imperative is something good for children, for example.
Or you could call it the golden rule.
These simple principals take a life time to master and understand more truly.
Hypocracy is when we expect the people to give things to us, but don’t want to give things to people.
It’s simple, but when we lead a double life, hypocracy breaks the rules of CI.
To properly represent reality, you need multiple perspectives.
The more perspectives the better. If we could understand things like animals and spirits that would be a bonus.
Narrow mindedness causes miss-representation.
There is a direct relation, eventually, between facts and virtue.
Some people get to the point where they can see it.
Other people will never see it in their whole life.

We are supposed to represent higher aspects of nature in our lives.

Is an animal consciousness less than your own?

Animals love and animals also survive via logic don’t they?

Animals are also aggressive via their Nature of survival, therefore why is consciousness benevolent or applied to a condition…only a Scientist would try to confirm the state only because they want to apply it themselves.

So there seems to be some straw men between Von, Fixed Cross and Nietzsche.
All I see is more miss-representation.
Miss-representation towards philosophers, ideas and the nature of the world.

I think in philosophy the basics are more important. It’s like the 4 legs on a chair. Without those you’re f-ed.
