If the internet became a threat to power and control over people or big money. Could they shut it down? Could a big terrorist attack happen and evidence that the internet made it possible cause us to hate and do away with our joy and pleasure of sharing information?
Would it work? Would it be back to the divide and conquer tactics?

They may not shut it down entirely they possibly might shut it down piece by part slowly or charge alot money for it until we won’t rebel. Shutting it down fast would break the back of too many businesses.

My original point though isn’t that the net is actually alive… obviously. Only that it is a sort of symbiant(sp?) relationship with us.
I’m reminded of the engineering level scene from the matrix 2.
In a world where most people couldn’t survive in the woods for 2 days, the net is more of a lifeline than many people think. I would imagine anything more than a very very localized shut down would be met with… alot of resistance.
