Interpreting dreams. methods and insights.

Interpreting dreams,

A while ago had a dream which I remember vividly, unusual because I normally can only remember scraps and pieces of dreams and never the whole narrative. Anyways here is the dream-

I was laying flat in bed staring at the roof and occasionally at the clock; it was late about 1pm. I was bored as hell thinking over and over about why I couldn’t get to sleep and how tired I was going to be tomorrow.

Then suddenly I noticed in the far left-hand corner of the room a silhouette of an old fashioned wooden chair floating in the air with a purple haze emanating around it.

At first I was surprised then I said to myself “fuck I’m dreaming, a lucid dream”, which is something I’d been wanting to experience.

But suddenly a felt a surge of anxiety, an ominous feeling, it seemed to surge up through me starting midway in my body till it encapsulated me. And then it felt like someone or something was suffocating me, holding my mouth and nose while applying pressure. I resined myself to this force I couldn’t see and the pressure seemed to lighten. I knew I was dreaming and i knew this unseen force suffocating me. Because i’ve dreampt it before. Then I fought back and the force or thing seemed to go limp and I woke up in my room nothing changed, nothing wrong.

I’m object of putting this forward to you guys/gals is to get perspectives in the interpretation of this particular dream and dreams in general. What are modern psychological theories regarding the meanings of dreams? Has it advanced much since Freud and Jung?

Only you can interpret your dreams.

Others do not know enough about you and your life and circumstances to be able to really give you much feedback.

I kept a journal for about one year, and often felt that I could best understand dreams much later, when the initial impressions (which are deceptive, because dreams are symbolic, and the impression of the symbol leads one to conclusions which are misleading) wore off.

Dreams seem often to be about insecurities. Base dread sort of stuff. You might better understand your dream six weeks from now.

I often feel that dreams, to complare with computers, are like icons being moved about on the desk top, the mechanical (brain) happenings affixed to these icons is very different from what you see.

Also, very special personal experiences and feelings and settings seem to repeat in dreams, for this reson also, it might be difficult for others to tell you about the meaning of your dream.

for the last 27 days i had a dream i killed 27 people. tonight i woke up, in a ditch, with a bloody knife and a cuban cigar. i have no memory of what happened only that i went to bed, woke up in a ditch 27 blocks from my house.

could it be possible i’m a sleepwalker ? how can i find out?
