Invisible Children updates!

Invisible Children is a charity started in 2003 by 3 college guys who are doing everything they can to get the war in Uganda and Sudan to be stopped. They need all the help they can get however.

They have 3 new programs that they’re running: one to give individually, one to give as a school, and one nation-wide event (for the U.S.)

The first is called TRI. It’s a program they’ve set up for you to give $3 a week (about a cup of coffee per week), or $12 per month (which is how it’s actually calculated.) It sounds like an annoyingly small amount to give, I know, because it’s kind of like “If I was gonna give I’d rather just send them a check for the whole year’s $144 and forget about it instead of this $3 a week stuff.” The way it’s set up though, you just punch in a credit card number and the money is deducted monthly, so there’s no bothering about it. The website is secure.invisiblechildren.com/donate/tri/

The second program is called Schools For Schools. They haven’t set up the site yet but it supposedly will be put up on February 5th, so keep your eyes open. It’s a program where you get your school to do fundraising activites and pledge all the money to Invisible Children. The site will (if I remember correctly) have real-time about how much money is being raised and what it will be used for. February 5th: schoolsforschools.com

The third program, the national one, is called Displace Me. April 28th, they are asking people to leave their homes for 24 hours to imagine what it’s like to be displaced for 10 years. It’s similar to the Global Night Commute from last year, but it’s being done in larger numbers in less cities. I can’t find a website for it yet but I’d keep checking invisiblechildren.com for one, they’ve got to put it up soon. The other difference between the GNC and Displace Me is that at this event they will also be writing letters to the United Nations.

There was a white flag parade in Gulu last fall to declare Gulu a peace zone. Naturally this was a decision agreed upon by the residents (not the LRA) but Gulu’s a lot better than it used to be. I don’t know a lot about the parade that I can tell you here, but here’s the update from their website: invisiblechildren.com/theMov … 1730328768

That’s all the information I have for now, and as I have more, I’ll keep everyone posted. Tell your friends about these programs, especially the Displace Me. April 28th! Go!

I’m not gonna be classy about those being on my threads. Can that be taken off please?
