What is politics effective for and why do we have it? What is the goal and intent of politics?
To coordinate efforts against common natural enemies of man, and to raise the lowest possible standard of living to the highest possible point.
Shouldn’t “average” and “high” standards of living be raised to their highest possible point as well?

In theory politics should reflect how we want to progress, i.e. social progression 
But that doesn’t appear to be what we have, change comes around too slow, priorities are misplaced…etc. etc. They’re all twats basically.

theres got to be potential there somewhere i.e. politics = the governing of a nation, there aren’t really any boundaries as to what this governing could be so the potential is in that, but I doubt I’ll witness any kind of approach to potential in my lifetime, I kind of half-ass advocate anarchism simply as a means of wiping the slate clean and rebuilding afresh 
So the potential you speak of in politics for our entire human history has never really been initiated?
I like anarchism because I like chaos and the lack of control to fulfill my own selfish motives or desires.
I am not the least bit politically inclined, am ignorant of it and sort of find it boring. As a matter of fact, as I type this I am aware that I may cancel it yet. I guess I like to take that step and maybe fall into the abyss. 
I suppose I might equate politics with the family unit albeit on a larger scale. When you think of it, so much of what goes on in government goes on in the family unit.
In politics, we should strive for the common good. There should be organization and laws that can lead to what is best for all. See, I did say I am ignorant here. There is much bullshit, is that the word, in politics. Once in a while, someone comes along who really cares, has ethics and strives for the common good. We all have different ideas of what that is. The question which just popped into my head is --is politics and government actually working when there is so much conflict – let’s say, we should bet out of Iraq – or we should stay.
Can government and politics really work 100 percent or even 50 percent when there are so many ideas and supposed ideals in our heads.
I don’t know if I would say that there is complete “bullshit” in politics. There has been much evolution in American History and for the good. Good laws, amendments – good laws being changed and becoming bad law (my perception). Perhaps politics can only be as good as there are ethical people. Perhaps not. But the world is not perfect and perhaps in our striving we come close to perfection.
I don’t know about anarchy. Perhaps there is a time for it. But I think it depends on where a government is in its evolution. I don’t personally feel it would always work. Yes, out of chaos things are created, like the universe was. But would we simply throw the baby out with the bathwater, rather than clean the baby and change the bathwater. 
Okay, I realize that my thinking may be totally flawed here but then what do I know about anything?
Maybe, it depends on what you look for to make this judgement. I like Holland They give the individual their rights of responsibility, Cannabis is legal you can smoke it if you please to, Mushrooms are legal you may take the trip if you please to, they have an appropriate attitude towards Sex Ed. in school which means they don’t have hordes of teenage mums on the streets, they have the Red Light District providing safety to prostitutes who would otherwise be on the streets etc. etc. I cannot see the U.K approaching any of those subject with such an attitude in the next 10-20 yrs at least…far too slow, in the meantime the amount of heroin addicts skyrockets as does teenage mums, the majority of whom aren’t mentally equipped to raise children…
Although the Anarchism as chaos idea is bullshit.
