is it possible that the only reason we believe in a higher power is so when were feeling sorrow and have no one else to turn to, we say “god is there he will help me hes always there for me” …? or when we pray for something and that prayer comes true, was it really god who answered that prayer or is it just luck?

no there are many more reasons, most are as meaningless as the one you’ve noticed, and there are very few decent ones.
“God” is one of the super-words in the human language, like “love”.
It means different things to different people, and has to do with strong desire and instinct. “God” is a very personal and subjective word.
Just be mindful that allot of powerful feelings and dreams exist within the god-word word-god.
