what if the whole universe is just my mind creating an environment for itself? what if none you guys, or anything for that matter, actually exist? if i really believed that i could do it, would my mind allow me to pass through a solid object, ie a brick wall?
what if our lives were just dreams that we wake up from when we die, and the “afterlife” is really the time we are awake and our “lives” are simply the time when our bodies are resting and our mind needs something to do?
“Thehairyguy” you have a strong point, lets say you have a version of YOUR life. Where it involves just YOU. Then I have my own. Its just me and no one else. Kinda like are own worlds. But tell if you can get the quantum leap down
What if Descartes were really a dustcloud believing itself (without thinking, because dustclouds can’t think) to be a thinking thing? Would that not make his assertion that he cannot doubt that he exists as a thinking thing simply an issue of the limits of his imagination?
Hold everything. I’m affraid this would not work. There would be no real environment because it was a manifestation of mind only, and mind cannot interact with itself dualistically. The key term in your statement is “for,” and it implies two states- the “itself” and its environment, and the “for” is in effect because consciousness is a state of lacking- it takes the world as a means to aquire its own “in-itself” by projecting ends to things and motives. In a perfectly complete thing there would be no activity or change or aspiration, there would be no “for anything.” At the heart of experience lies this dichotomous relationship between consciousness and being; the world of inert things and the projected meaning onto them by the unending project of consciousness attempting to escape its own contingency. Therefore the mind is certainly not hosting this event, one is indeed “suddenly existing” or thrown into the world, among objects and things, without any consultation. It would seem unethical for a mind to play its own tricks, so the safer assumption is that an environment does very well exist and it is I who is this mind, some absent lacking thing forever trying to, for once, cause itself.
I stand firmly in the position that while immanence is a logical neccessity, experience produces dichotomous events which interact dynamically.
The universe is not a brain in a jar producing its own reality. If this were so, I’d merely suggest that still there is only a consciousness experiencing a “brain” environment, in which case the reality of the experience would not be significantly different from my experience of this computer in front of me.
As a rule, if there is consciousness there must also be some pure thing being-there with the capacity to be experienced. A consciousness cannot experience itself as anything other than a revealing entity of things other than itself.
Solipsism is true insofar as the Other cannot be experienced as anything more than an object- that one cannot seat oneself in your experience. It is an utterly unbreakable principle that is so perfectly true, philosophy tries to avoid it altogether because it puts everyone outta business. So granting that, let’s just say that for all intents and purposes, a safe analogy of your behavior is that you are much like me, and therefore probably conscious as well.
detrop, not true, if its just him, and his world it would be possible, you said its not, if you look outside the box and say its his world it would be,
I don’t think you understand what I mean to say. In this statement too I see the same dichotomy- “his” and “world.” Even pure mind must have for it some figment for which to be demonstrably aware of, and in being so there is never only total mind or total environment.
In a dream state you experience a mental world, which or course does not exist outside of your head while you are sleeping. But inside the dream, if you become lucid, you will find yourself admitting in the dream, to yourself, that the experience is identical to that of the world outside of your head which you experience while awake.
Now, keep that in mind and make this addition to the chain of thoughts:
In order for even a dream reality to occur, there must be previously experienced data within the memory to produce the imagery and plot of the dream, even if it is somewhat fantastical or fictitious. I would hardly expect that a mind that had no developed memory could produce dream activity.
If, as you claim, a mind can “create its own reality,” is must be after some “real” reality was experienced with which to draft an imaginary world or reality from. A pure mind is entirely empty, like an uncharged battery.
alrigh, ya got me at some points. but lets say you imagine something that acually interacts with yourself and it creates actions and reactions,(i.e. holutionation) maybe not on others, but him it does. Now its still not there
but what if he focussed so much on that holutionation it became real, logicaly speaking thats laughible, but put thought into it
What if all of our interactions are just shared thoughts and what we see in our waking moments is simply a three-dimensional rendering of said thoughts.
You know: God has several thousand programmers in heaven creating kicking visuals for what we imagine.
curse my ADD. At the start of the previous post I had a good thing to say, but half-way through i lost my train of thought and started letting my hands write words without my brain’s consent.
Where exactly did you see anything about memory loss? I know i wrote
This simply means that i lost focus, my mind wandered, and i lost what i was going to say. But i respect you for trying to make me look stupid. It shows good ethics. We could use more people like you.
I guess what im trying to say is that a lot of what happens in life seems almost scripted, which leads me to question how real our reactions really are.
if not acknowledged by a enviroment of liars (teachers, etc)
and replace them with people like gene ray
then reality is true i have no fears thanks to the timecube laws
i am free i know the earth is more cubic than sphere and

now speaking in parallel terms the fate of god is decided
because the blessings of natures harmonic timecube over
