Is there a scientific theory of thought?

How are we able to think? What are the chemical and physical processes that allow me to formulate thoughts, talk in my mind, listen to music in my mind, etc…

Behavioral neuroscience?

Sounds like Psycology is your answer.

Cognitive Neuroscience deals more with information and the algorithmic computation of our thoughts and consciousness.

Cognitive Neurobiology deals more with the chemical processes and actions at the cellular and molecular level.

For some good beginner reading on the subject, Oliver Sacks does a great job of depicting neuropathologys and disorders in his book, “The Man that Mistook His Wife for a Hat”. Sack’s “Awakenings” is an interesting read as well and a great film.

For some more philosophical reads, Stephen Pinker is good.

I just think that the electrical impuluses in our brain create a certain pattern to create thought. One pattern could be for a specific emotion, or a specific thought. Depending on the pattern created by the electrical impulses, we think about a certain thing or feel a certain way, but this is all happening very rapidly and is way more complex than i explain it to be.
