It's just a Jump to the Left…

Have you ever been to see The Rocky Horror Picture Show?

 • No. Isn’t that about transvestite aliens or something?
 • Yeah, I saw it on video.
 • I saw it once or twice with my friends.
 • I used to go regularly, even knew some lines. "Say ‘Hello’ Riff!"
 • Yeah, you should have seen me play Frank/Riff/Magenta/Eddy/Columbia/Janet/Dr. Scott/Janet/Brad/Rocky!

I know an odd title for a thread, especially one that I would like Imp to participate in. You know, he hates the left.
Note to self, do not explain Jokes.
Anyway, I noticed Imp refering to The Rocky Horror Picture Show on a couple of recent occasions. I used to be in the local “cast,” playing Brad, Dr. Scott, and (on one occasion) Magenta. I actually met the woman who would become my wife there, when I was playing Brad and she was playing Janet!
My question is this:
Are any other ILPer’s cast members, or even regulars at the RHPS? Or any other midnight movie, such as Priscilla, Queen of the Desert or others?

A local theater ran rocky every fri and sat night at 12.
I went several times. Once the projector broke and people
just acted out the whole rest of the whole movie, and believe
me it was pitch perfect. I haven’t seen the movie in years, though.

Rocky Horror is pretty awesome, but also strange and confusing to me.

The film used to break on us all the time, I still have some splices. Our theatre would always quickly fix the problem, so we never had to do a verbatim performance.
I saw it recently with some friends who had not seen it, did as many of the lines as I could remember. I had forgotten how much fun it could be!

Stange and confusing is what drew several in, including myself. And the soundtrack kicks ass!

#-o could you fill us in on what it’s about… is it like a cabaret or something?

Where’s the option for:
I’ve got the damn movie memorized but have never “done” the show.

Used to go to a lot of midnight showings in HS. Never became a member of the cast though.

snaps glove

never played an actual cast member…

damn it janet!

Hello F(r)iends,

Just remember that the correct thing to do afterwards is to then take “a step to the RIGHT:wink:

The midnight shows are great! Take some rice with you and don’t be surprised when you see a bunch of drag queens in the audience in full attire (imitating the show’s stars). The movie is a joke, it’s so bad, so, so, so bad that it actually comes full circle and is good! I mean, it could quite literally be the worst film ever made that it is a must see. You have to see it over and over. The Drew Carey Show once performed a very amusing and quite cool combination of The Rocky Horror Picture Show and of Priscilla that still brings a smile to my face…

But its the pelvic thrust that really drives you insane.

let’s do the time warp again!

In an old purity test that I took, oh, back in the 80’s, it actually stated that Rocky Horror counted as a Burlesque show.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show has shown in midnight shows for the last 30 years. It stars the very talented gender bending Tim Curry, Oscar award winning Susan Sarandon, multi–platinum selling rock star Meatloaf, and straight man Barry Bostwick (the straight man is actually bi in ths movie; Barry is recently known as the Mayor from Spin City). It has a great soundtrack. But the best part is the audience participation.
Yeah, it was and in some places still is a place where you could (in a public theatre, mind you) strip to your underwear, yell obsenities, act out the movie. Oh yeah, and drink and meet girls. I saw it 200+ times, met several of my girlfriends, not to mention my wife there.
If you want a good feel for what it was like, watch the movie “Fame,” they go to a showing in New York. That is the original cast, led by a guy named Sal Piro, and from what I understand it is still going strong. Also you can rent or buy the RHPS DVD, this has excerpts of the Audience participation.
If you can still find it, check it out!

Sorry, Sky.
I’m just not that smart.

A Toast…
To absent friends!

High School was when I started. I went once after one of my proms.

Imp, seriously, even though I’ve never seen you, I’ve been reading your post for almost 3 years now, so I feel I know you somewhat. I was sure you were a Riff. I bet you would be a damn good one.

Now there is an idea, casting ILP for RHPS;

:-k

PG comes to mind for Janet.
That makes James 2 Brad.
You are Riff.
I could be Chuckie, the narrator.
Frank could be…
Hmm, now that I think of it, I had better stop here if I know what’s good for me!

QK

Don’t forget the toast and squirt guns! And Toilet Paper!
Yeah, that Drew Carey scene is great!
But if I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times;
NO MORE F–––ing ABBA!

QK

Thirst, BTW:

:sunglasses: Cool Name on this post. =D>

Riff? well if I had to be anyone, I guess it’d be him…

then again, it would depend on who played Magenta…

but I am almost sure you picked me as Riff because of his prowess with firearms… (besides, don’t you need a good singing voice to play in that one? I sound like a cross between lemmy and bon)

-Imp

Nah, next time you watch RHPS listen to Riff; Richard O’Brien only sings in one key! He’s one of the easy ones to sing!
One of the reasons I thought you would be a good Riff is that he has a tendency to trail off at the end of his statements, as if they all ended in ellipses, and you are King of the Ellipses.
