It’s an extremist sectarian position, but it’s basically the same logic as what you see even in the “New Testament” texts alleged between Jesus and traditionalists.
The extreme strict variation of Judaism, something that is making a reprise recently, concerns itself over anything physical intruding upon the adherent and causing them to be unclean.
It’s the inverse of the Christian claim often cited from Mark 7 or Matthew 15, which to paraphrase states that ‘nothing that goes upon or into a man can defile him; that only that which comes out of a man can defile him’.
As the inverse, as extreme traditionalists hold in Judaism, it is ‘that which goes upon and into a man can defile him; and that which comes out of man can defile him.’
With this logic, then, even an accidental glimpse of an “unclean” television of cinematic scene could cause the adherent to be unclean.
So blinders protect the person. It is basically a literal take on “see no evil”.
