Job, Evil, and 2nd Person Knowledge

I thought this was especially interesting considering all the talk about religious knowledge going on. This is an audio presentation by Eleonore Stump, philosopher of religion that has done a lot of work on The Problem of Evil, and brings an interestingly feminine approach to work.

fascinating, very interesting, thanks for posting that! it brings to mind Martin Buber’s I & Thou with respect to the second person perspective/interaction. esp. interesting I thought was the idea of the nested second person accounts that are set within previous second person accounts and so on within the whole dialog as “showing providence as operating in the manner of a fractal.” the book of Job is very important to me and you, and obviously Eleonore Stump, have given me another way to consider it… kudos

I’m so glad you liked it! The thing that impressed me so much is that this concept of second person knowledge opens up a whole new facet to the value of religious experience. It’s an item of evidence, but it’s more than that- a shift in perspective that changes one’s frame of reference for all these debates.
