judge shot in reno

The right wing war on judges has taken a ugly
turn when judge in Reno was shot today.
the sniper shot him sitting in his office from a
block away. Why would I say right wing nutcase
did this? For the simple reason that the nutcases on
the right have been threatening judges for years now.

An example is ann coulter who on Jan 27 said,
“we need somebody to put rat poison in
Judge Steven’s creme brulee”

Comments such as this let people think its open season
on so called “activist Judges”. By the way, Activist judges
by right wing standard is right wing judges, rarely on the left
do judges overrule set legal precedent. An example of an
activist judge is Clarence Thomas, who would happily overturn
decades of settle legal decisions in the name of his ideology.
More judges will come under fire (literally) as nutcases continue their
war on the judicial system.

You’re a really sick fuck, Pete.

K: I have been around the block more then once and I have
seen truly “sick fucks”. I knew a guy who once bought
an ak-47 because he thought it was cool when some guy
had used an ak-47 to shoot up and kill children on a
playground in Stockton California. This truly sick fuck keep
the ak-47 in a room at the swim school we worked at,
A swim school full of children. So before you make judgements,
you should probably understand what is being a
“sick fuck” really means.

Kropotkin

Actually he is right! You sick people would rather protect the rights of that sicko with the AK-47 than those children. The only thing you think is bad about guns is the ownership of them by citizens… unless of course it is the Black Panthers… its fine for them to march around with guns. Anyone else who owns a gun is sick in your book!

I noticed there is no comment about you reporting this guys or making it publickly known about why he had a gun there. Perhaps its because you are just a coward and only reveal your political philosophies online where people can be annonymous.

I would have told the sucker to remove the weapon from the premises or face retribution!

K:Actually, I am against gun ownership of all kinds.
Guns have never been proven to do anything in home defense
situations and probably cost the lives of many (how many, unknown)
children who find the guns and kill themselves or their friends.
You are more likely to hurt yourself before you hurt or kill a
home invader, so a gun is just for one’s peace of mind. I have
one of those next to my dresser, it’s a wooden baseball bat,
which is a far safer weapon in a home invasion then a gun anyway.

would have cost me my job and created some real
difficulty for me. I spent months trying to convince the owner
the guns, Yes, multiple guns on the swim school grounds,
were a danger. finally after much pleading, he made his

Kropotkin

Wow, Astral talk about out of left field. Black Panthers? Being a young bi-racial male with an African-American heritage I find this offensive. What they stood for was revolution not for some ignoramus to use as a shot against someone who speaks up about the right’s war on judges.

P.S. Slow your roll with the exclamations

Now, it is the right-wing policy to abhorr any sign of proper justice so I feel P.K. was right in his bringing up of said issue. If this was about the gun issue well…no person needs an AK 47 simple as that. My father is a police officer so I believe hand guns may be permitted but that is as far as one should go. They are often a danger more to the owner and his kin than any other party.

I dare you say that to the face of this cop.

Don’t come back with the usual, “If guns were banned the murderer wouldn’t be armed.” We all know it doesn’t work like that.

“The supposed quietude of a good man allures the ruffian; while on the other hand, arms like laws discourage and keep the invader and the plundere in age, and preserve order in the world as well as property. The same balance would be preserved were all the world destitute of arms, for all would be alike; but since some will not, others dare not lay them aside…Horrid mischief would ensue were one half the world depreived of the use of them…”-Thomas Paine, I Writing of Thomas Paine at 56 (1894)

a-human-right.com/homedefense.html

“A man’s home is his castle” stated English Common Law. The tradition of respect of safety in our own homes is all the more enduring for our ability to reinforce it. Americans have less concern than citizens in other countries about suffering a forcible home invasion. The reason for that is simple: predators who would break into an occupied home are very likely to be shot by the residents.

In other countries, especially those which have recently outlawed armed self-defense (such as England), home invasions are on the rise. Their criminals have nothing to fear from the law-abiding people.

Again, the inability of the predators to divine which house would be easy pickings and which would be defended effectively improves the safety even of those who would not keep arms for protection. An invader can’t tell if you, your neighbor, both of you or neither of you would be equipped to end his criminal career on the spot. For that reason, burglars generally try to avoid contact with their victims.

Many lawful people say that they would not shoot even a criminal in order to protect their posessions. However, we have no way of reading the minds of those who break into homes of other people. They may be after loot, or they may be intent on doing damage to any people they encounter.

Some predators rely on surprise and superior numbers to effect home invasions. Such perpetrators must be repelled, as they often combine burglary with diversions such as rape and murder. Reasoning with them, pleading, appealing to their better side does not work.

Breaking into somebody’s home is not an accidental act. A burglar who has no regard for the sanctity of your home would likely have no more regard for your physical well-being. With that in mind, please place your own safety first and foremost in your mind.

Your goal is to survive the invasion until cops show up in strength. Going to look for the intruder would not be safe. Make sure that you have accounted for all family members, then stay put in the safe room and cover the door with your weapon. Any damage visited upon the intruder would be his own fault.

Situations like this are one of the reasons why having more than one trained person in the family is helpful. You might be on the phone with police and distracted, but your spouse would cover you. Hopefully, the 911 emergency dispatch system would work well when you need it. In a city, police response may be rapid, but out in the country you may wait for an hour before help can get to you.

Pointing a gun at somebody is not very nice but neither is breaking into people’s homes. Furthermore, use of any less effective means of self-defense plays into the hands of the criminal. That isn’t noble, merely stupid.

Fortunately, most burglars won’t dare to loiter once they realize that they have been spotted. They are in for the easy pickings and not for ending up between armed homeowners on one side and police on the other. On the other hand, if they suspect that the residents are not armed, they would attack at once to prevent a call for help.

“But how can you set yourself as jury, judge and executioner?” some would say. “Even criminals deserve a fair trial.”

If a person must fire on an intruder, she would be doing so only in order to protect lives of self and dependents. Not to punish, not to discourage criminal behavior but to save lives from a predator. As a side effect, being shot in the process of committing a crime provides potent Pavlovian conditioning to the perpetrator.

I believe that the same statement applies to you, Peter. Everyone, please, read the following and tell me what you think of it. I know it’s alot of text, but I garauntee a good read.

ON SHEEP, WOLVES, AND SHEEPDOGS

By LTC(RET) Dave Grossman, RANGER,
Ph.D., author of “On Killing.”

Honor never grows old, and honor rejoices the heart of age. It does so because honor is, finally, about defending those noble and worthy things that deserve defending, even if it comes at a high cost. In our time, that may mean social disapproval, public scorn, hardship, persecution, or as always, even death itself. The question remains:

What is worth defending? What is worth dying for? What is worth living for? - William J. Bennett - in a lecture to the United States Naval Academy November 24, 1997:

One Vietnam veteran, an old retired colonel, once said this to me: “Most of the people in our society are sheep. They are kind, gentle, productive creatures who can only hurt one another by accident.” This is true. Remember, the murder rate is six per 100,000 per year, and the aggravated assault rate is four per 1,000 per year. What this means is that the vast majority of Americans are not inclined to hurt one another.

Some estimates say that two million Americans are victims of violent crimes every year, a tragic, staggering number, perhaps an all-time record rate of violent crime. But there are almost 300 million Americans, which means that the odds of being a victim of violent crime is considerably less than one in a hundred on any given year. Furthermore, since many violent crimes are committed by repeat offenders, the actual number of violent citizens is considerably less than two million.

Thus there is a paradox, and we must grasp both ends of the situation: We may well be in the most violent times in history, but violence is still remarkably rare. This is because most citizens are kind, decent people who are not capable of hurting each other, except by accident or under extreme provocation. They are sheep.

I mean nothing negative by calling them sheep. To me, it is like the pretty, blue robin’s egg. Inside it is soft and gooey but someday it will grow into something wonderful. But the egg cannot survive without its hard blue shell.

Police officers, soldiers, and other warriors are like that shell, And someday the civilization they protect will grow into something wonderful. For now, though, they need warriors to protect them from the predators.

“Then there are the wolves,” the old war veteran said, “and the wolves feed on the sheep without mercy.” Do you believe there are wolves out there who will feed on the flock without mercy? You better believe it. There are evil men in this world and they are capable of evil deeds. The moment you forget that or pretend it is not so, you become a sheep. There is no safety in denial.

“Then there are sheepdogs,” he went on, “and I’m a sheepdog. I live to protect the flock and confront the wolf.”

If you have no capacity for violence then you are a healthy productive citizen, a sheep. If you have a capacity for violence and no empathy for your fellow citizens, then you have defined an aggressive sociopath, a wolf.

But what if you have a capacity for violence, and a deep love for your fellow citizens? What do you have then? A sheepdog, a warrior, someone who is walking the hero’s path. Someone who can walk into the heart of darkness, into the universal human phobia, and walk out unscathed.

Let me expand on this old soldier’s excellent model of the sheep, wolves, and sheepdogs. We know that the sheep live in denial, that is what makes them sheep. They do not want to believe that there is evil in the world. They can accept the fact that fires can happen, which is why they want fire extinguishers, fire sprinklers, fire alarms and fire exits throughout their kids’ schools.

But many of them are outraged at the idea of putting an armed police officer in their kid’s school. Our children are thousands of times more likely to be killed or seriously injured by school violence than fire, but the sheep’s only response to the possibility of violence is denial. The idea of someone coming to kill or harm their child is just too hard, and so they chose the path of denial.

The sheep generally do not like the sheepdog. He looks a lot like the wolf. He has fangs and the capacity for violence. The difference, though, is that the sheepdog must not, can not and will not ever harm the sheep. Any sheep dog who intentionally harms the lowliest little lamb will be punished and removed. The world cannot work any other way, at least not in a representative democracy or a republic such as ours.

Still, the sheepdog disturbs the sheep. He is a constant reminder that there are wolves in the land. They would prefer that he didn’t tell them where to go, or give them traffic tickets, or stand at the ready in our airports, in camouflage fatigues, holding an M-16. The sheep would much rather have the sheepdog cash in his fangs, spray paint himself white, and go, “Baa.” Until the wolf shows up. Then the entire flock tries desperately to hide behind one lonely sheepdog.

The students, the victims, at Columbine High School were big, tough high school students, and under ordinary circumstances they would not have had the time of day for a police officer. They were not bad kids; they just had nothing to say to a cop. When the school was under attack, however, and SWAT teams were clearing the rooms and hallways, the officers had to physically peel those clinging, sobbing kids off of them. This is how the little lambs feel about their sheepdog when the wolf is at the door.

Look at what happened after September 11, 2001 when the wolf pounded hard on the door. Remember how America, more than ever before, felt differently about their law enforcement officers and military personnel? Remember how many times you heard the word hero?

Understand that there is nothing morally superior about being a sheepdog; it is just what you choose to be. Also understand that a sheepdog is a funny critter: He is always sniffing around out on the perimeter, checking the breeze, barking at things that go bump in the night, and yearning for a righteous battle. That is, the young sheepdogs yearn for a righteous battle. The old sheepdogs are a little older and wiser, but they move to the sound of the guns when needed, right along with the young ones.

Here is how the sheep and the sheepdog think differently. The sheep pretend the wolf will never come, but the sheepdog lives for that day. After the attacks on September 11, 2001, most of the sheep, that is, most citizens in America said, “Thank God I wasn’t on one of those planes.” The sheepdogs, the warriors, said, “Dear God, I wish I could have been on one of those planes. Maybe I could have made a difference.” When you are truly transformed into a warrior and have truly invested yourself into warriorhood, you want to be there. You want to be able to make a difference.

There is nothing morally superior about the sheepdog, the warrior, but he does have one real advantage. Only one. And that is that he is able to survive and thrive in an environment that destroys 98 percent of the population.

There was research conducted a few years ago with individuals convicted of violent crimes. These cons were in prison for serious, predatory crimes of violence: assaults, murders and killing law enforcement officers. The vast majority said that they specifically targeted victims by body language: Slumped walk, passive behavior and lack of awareness. They chose their victims like big cats do in Africa, when they select one out of the herd that is least able to protect itself.

Some people may be destined to be sheep and others might be genetically primed to be wolves or sheepdogs. But I believe that most people can choose which one they want to be, and I’m proud to say that more and more Americans are choosing to become sheepdogs.

Seven months after the attack on September 11, 2001, Todd Beamer was honored in his hometown of Cranbury, New Jersey. Todd, as you recall, was the man on Flight 93 over Pennsylvania who called on his cell phone to alert an operator from United Airlines about the hijacking. When he learned of the other three passenger planes that had been used as weapons, Todd dropped his phone and uttered the words, “Let’s roll,” which authorities believe was a signal to the other passengers to confront the terrorist hijackers. In one hour, a transformation occurred among the passengers - athletes, business people and parents. – from sheep to sheepdogs and together they
fought the wolves, ultimately saving an unknown number of lives on the ground.

There is no safety for honest men except by believing all possible evil of evil men. - Edmund Burke

Here is the point I like to emphasize, especially to the thousands of police officers and soldiers I speak to each year. In nature the sheep, real sheep, are born as sheep. Sheepdogs are born that way, and so are wolves. They didn’t have a choice. But you are not a critter. As a human being, you can be whatever you want to be. It is a conscious, moral decision.

If you want to be a sheep, then you can be a sheep and that is okay, but you must understand the price you pay. When the wolf comes, you and your loved ones are going to die if there is not a sheepdog there to protect you. If you want to be a wolf, you can be one, but the sheepdogs are going to hunt you down and you will never have rest, safety, trust or love. But if you want to be a sheepdog and walk the warrior’s path, then you must make a conscious and moral decision every day to dedicate, equip and prepare yourself to thrive in that toxic, corrosive moment when the wolf comes knocking at the door.

For example, many officers carry their weapons in church. They are well concealed in ankle holsters, shoulder holsters or inside-the-belt holsters tucked into the small of their backs. Anytime you go to some form of religious service, there is a very good chance that a police officer in your congregation is carrying. You will never know if there is such an individual in your place of worship, until the wolf appears to massacre you and your loved ones.

I was training a group of police officers in Texas, and during the break, one officer asked his friend if he carried his weapon in church. The other cop replied, “I will never be caught without my gun in church.” I asked why he felt so strongly about this, and he told me about a cop he knew who was at a church massacre in Ft. Worth, Texas in 1999. In that incident, a mentally deranged individual came into the church and opened fire, gunning down fourteen people. He said that officer believed he could have saved every life that day if he had been carrying his gun. His own son was shot, and all he could do was throw himself on the boy’s body and wait to die. That cop looked me in the eye and said, “Do you have any idea how hard it would be to live with yourself after that?”

Some individuals would be horrified if they knew this police officer was carrying a weapon in church. They might call him paranoid and would probably scorn him. Yet these same individuals would be enraged and would call for “heads to roll” if they found out that the airbags in their cars were defective, or that the fire extinguisher and fire sprinklers in their kids’ school did not work. They can accept the fact that fires and traffic accidents can happen and that there must be safeguards against them.

Their only response to the wolf, though, is denial, and all too often their response to the sheepdog is scorn and disdain. But the sheepdog quietly asks himself, “Do you have any idea how hard it would be to live with yourself if your loved ones were attacked and killed, and you had to stand there helplessly because you were unprepared for that day?”

It is denial that turns people into sheep. Sheep are psychologically destroyed by combat because their only defense is denial, which is counterproductive and destructive, resulting in fear, helplessness and horror when the wolf shows up.

Denial kills you twice. It kills you once, at your moment of truth when you are not physically prepared: you didn’t bring your gun, you didn’t train. Your only defense was wishful thinking. Hope is not a strategy. Denial kills you a second time because even if you do physically survive, you are psychologically shattered by your fear, helplessness and horror at your moment of truth.

Gavin de Becker puts it like this in Fear Less, his superb post-9/11 book, which should be required reading for anyone trying to come to terms with our current world situation: “…denial can be seductive, but it has an insidious side effect. For all the peace of mind deniers think they get by saying it isn’t so, the fall they take when faced with new violence is all the more unsettling.”

Denial is a save-now-pay-later scheme, a contract written entirely in small print, for in the long run, the denying person knows the truth on some level. And so the warrior must strive to confront denial in all aspects of his life, and prepare himself for the day when evil comes.

If you are warrior who is legally authorized to carry a weapon and you step outside without that weapon, then you become a sheep, pretending that the bad man will not come today. No one can be “on” 24/7, for a lifetime. Everyone needs down time. But if you are authorized to carry a weapon, and you walk outside without it, just take a deep breath, and say this to yourself…“Baa.”

This business of being a sheep or a sheep dog is not a yes-no dichotomy. It is not an all-or-nothing, either-or choice. It is a matter of degrees, a continuum. On one end is an abject, head-in-the-sand-sheep and on the other end is the ultimate warrior. Few people exist completely on one end or the other.

Most of us live somewhere in between. Since 9-11 almost everyone in America took a step up that continuum, away from denial. The sheep took a few steps toward accepting and appreciating their warriors, and the warriors started taking their job more seriously. The degree to which you move up that continuum, away from sheephood and denial, is the degree to which you and your loved ones will survive, physically and psychologically at your moment of truth.

I am not going to answer point for point but I will say this,
guns kills far more youths via gun murders, suicides and
unintentionally killings then police officers kill in home invasion,
robberies, stand offs, criminals acts so on and so forth.

For example, gun violence killed 2893 American children
in 2002. That is an average of 8 children killed every single day
by guns. 8.

The firearms used in 72% of unintentional firearms deaths,
and suicides are stored in the residence of the victim,
their relative, or their friends.

More then 3,500 children were expelled in 1998-99 for bringing
guns to schools in a 40 week school year, 88 children per week
were expelled for bringing a gun to school,
and those were the ones caught.

During 1999, 52% of all murder victims, younger then age 18
were killed by by guns and 82% of murder victims age 13-19
were killed by guns.

59% of students in grades 6-12 know where to go to get
a gun, and two thirds say they can get a gun within 24 hours.

Did the police actually stop 2893 bad guys in the midst
of an actual crime by shooting them. How many home invasions
have been stopped by the home owner having a gun?
I will be willing to say less then 10 nationwide this year.
And almost 3000 children will die this year, due to a gun
being stored at home for “protection”.

Instead of your couple of examples, I can give you 2893
reasons why guns should not be allowed in private hands.

Kropotkin

First, we can throw statistics around all day. So me asking you to cite your sources might help me out, but probably not by much.

Second, all of these situations are the result of irresponsible parents. My father started talking to me at a very young age about gun saftey. He made me watch Eddie Eagle videos. I still remember that if I ever see a gun I should “Stop! Don’t Touch! Leave the area! Tell and adult!” After that, my dad gave me more responsibilities and let me handle air rifles and help him clean and carry his guns. Mind you I was about 7 or 8 and I’ve never had an accident and never fantacized about shooting up my school.

Whenever I handled a gun my dad handed it to me, I held on to hit while he still did. He asked, “Got it?” I confirmed, then he let go. The first thing I was taught to do point it in a safe direction at all times, then check to see if the saftey is on, if it isn’t, turn it on, then thouroughly check to see if it is completley unloaded. No matter how many people have handled that gun before me, I did exactly the same thing.

My dad always kept the guns and ammo locked up separatley using two different keys. I be that if 2893 of those kids learned the same lessons I did and didn’t live in broken homes that number would plumet.

Every month, the NRA publishes “America’s First Freedom,”
a magazine in which there is a section called Armed Citizen in which people who have first hand experiences with using firearms to deter crimes report thier victory. An estimated 2 million times a year guns are used to stop crime. This month there are 7 instances of citizens using guns to stop crime. Which one shall I read, I’ll type it up for you if you want.

The one about a woman who almost got robbed while walking alone at night? The one about a concealed carry permit holding citizen who foiled a grocery store robbing. The one about a 75 year old grandmother scaring away two teens who were looking for trouble at her house? How about the one in which a pregnant woman was lying on her couch with her 1 and three year old chirdren when man tried to break into her duplex? What about the one where a man ended a serial home invader? Or finally the one in which manager at a cell phone store saved a female employee’s life from a crook who had a gun pointed to her head?

The exact stories can be found here > nrapublications.org/armed%20 … /index.asp

Below is the Armed Citizen database, it goes back to 1985. Each story has the newspaper in which it was printed and the date it was printed. You can search by keywords or by states. I’m sure you’ll find that more than 10 crimes per year are stopped by firearms. And remember, by banning guns you will only disarm the citizens who prevent these crimes.

nraila.org/ArmedCitizen/Default.aspx

My stats are from the “Illinois council against handgun
violence” and its great that the NRA, one of the sleaziest,
corrupt, foulest organizations on the planet earth cares
about little old ladies, but it doesn’t change the fact more
people are hurt or killed by guns then is “saved” by guns.
Sure you might be able to find a couple people saved by
having a gun on hand, but wanna bet on how many
people accidentally shoot themselves? Of the estimated
30,000 firearms deaths in the U.S. 4% is accidental
or about 1,200. I find it appalling that children are even
allowed around guns. You don’t let children drive, why would
you allow children access to guns. Only sheer stupidity
might make that a good thing. And actually come to think
about it, giving children “Lessons” might make both parents
and children complacent about guns in the house.
It is a remarkable bad idea.

Greets Satori… nice to know your african first and american second. The black panthers are nothing more than a racist organization that stands for black only advancement! The biggest reason I brought that up is because the liberals are big time anti-gun and yet they allow them to run around with them without question.

So sit back and take a filthy chill pill pal!

There is no mistake about it! You take guns away from the citizens they soon become enslaved! Under your rules only the criminals have the guns and thats it!

And on a quote from Kropotkin about guns never defending the home. You just dont think so because its never reported on the news, because they are biased and dont want to shed a positive light on gun owners who stop violence and save lives! You have spoken like a good little liberal media lap dog. Here’s your treat tosses a doggie bone.

Your chances of death from a Doctor are higher than someone killing you with a gun! Go figure right? No wonder “Party of Death” is your motto!

added: To Disgruntled and Kropotkin. Its not hard to get baised statistics guys. You cant trust any of them. I do trust the fact that my own family has sent dirt bags packing with firearms. Your childish retarded stupidity falls on deaf ears Kropotkin.

Criminials will ALWAYS have guns! Your just saying lets take them away from the good guys!

Astral:
There is no mistake about it! You take guns away from the citizens they soon become enslaved! Under your rules only the criminals have the guns and thats it!

K: I advocat no one has guns. It is as simple as that.
You cannot even make the argument how guns protect
people from being “enslaved”. It is false protection.

A: And on a quote from Kropotkin about guns never defending the home. K: Your insults are cute, but try to make an argument instead
of insults. Facts. Try them sometime. Show me numbers, how
many people in the U.S. have been “saved” by a gun in your
hypothetical situation. Whereas I can show you the number of deaths
caused by guns nationwide, and the number of accidental deaths.
I don’t play the conservative emotional game. Feelings is the name of
the game for the conservative. I deal in facts. Give me some facts
proving your point.

A: Your chances of death from a Doctor are higher than someone killing you with a gun! Go figure right? No wonder “Party of Death” is your motto!

K: Party of death? The GOP talking points won’t work when
faced with facts. The so called party of life, GOPers, have
caused over 100,000 deaths in wars in the last 3 years.
The GOPers are in favor of death with their drive to
have capital punishment for more and more crimes.
Guns quite clearly kill thousands every year and your support
of guns means you are in favor of death.
Taking guns away from people would reduce the rate of gun
deaths. So how is that a culture of death? It isn’t.

A: added: To Disgruntled and Kropotkin. Its not hard to get baised statistics guys. You cant trust any of them. I do trust the fact that my own family has sent dirt bags packing with firearms. Your childish retarded stupidity falls on deaf ears Kropotkin.

K: I trust facts. I am a philosopher. We deal with facts, statistic,
logic, science. Maybe you should try that some day.
Don’t be emotional about everything. Feelings are not
the way to deal with everything. As far as lets see,
“retarded stupidity” goes, I am not advocating an
emotional position, you are. Try looking in the mirror.

A: Criminals will ALWAYS have guns! Your just saying lets take them away from the good guys!

K: That is simply not true. Show me the guns that
the criminals at enron used. Show me the gun that
Martha stewart used. Crime is not just about guns and
home invasions, crime has a wide range, and guns is a
part, yes, but not every single criminal has a gun.
I am not so sure I would identify carrying a gun with
being the good guys. Having been in several situations
of near violence, I can state that if one resorts to a gun,
you have probably mishandled the situation in the first place.
You need a gun to cover your incompetence in dealing
with people. And that hopefully comes before you kill
either yourself or someone you love.

I think this quote pretty much sum up the whole debate about whether or not all access to guns can be restricted by the public, including criminals.

I trust the men who founded my country more than anyone I meet on the internet.

You say you are a philosopher, here are some quote from some very famous philosophers.

6 ARISTOTLE, POLITICS ch. 7, 271 (Jowett transl. 1908). "When the country is adapted for cavalry, then a strong oligarchy is likely to be established. For . . . only rich men can afford horses. The second form of oligarchy prevails when the country is adapted to heavy infantry; for this service is better suited to the rich than the poor. But the light armed . . . element is wholly democratic

PLATO, LAWS viii, 127 (Bury transl. 1917). Plato, continuing, alluded to the fact that an armed citizenry acts as a check on oppression by the ruler, suggesting that “the ruler through fear of the subject, will never allow him to become … in any way warlike.” Id. at 139.

Both the oligarch and the Tyrant mistrust the people, and therefore deprive them of arms. -Aristotle

I wont go as far as to say that you are an oligarch or a tyrant, I believe you are of a third breed, one that Aristotle forgot to mention. You Peter, are misinformed. The only things you know about guns are spoon fed facts by the media and teachers. I’m sure if you read some more quotes that my founding fathers said and talk to responsible gun owners and concealed-carry permit holders I’m sure that with time your views will change.

K: I am old enough not to have my view dictated by any given
philosopher. I try a bold and daring thing. I think for myself.
Every single view I offer is my own view. I have spent years working
out my ideas, my vision of the world. I have spent years trying to
understand the world and my place in it. I know exactly what I
believe and WHY I believe it. Can you say the same thing?

I have talked to gun owners and have studied the founding
fathers in greater detail then I care to admit, ( can you say
federalist papers, I can) and their arguments was based on
a viewpoint that does not exist today. It would be no different
then saying that we can’t have cars today because the
founding fathers didn’t have anything to say about
cars. We exist in a different time with different situations.
What often made sense and was valid 200 years ago often does not
make sense and is not valid today. In regards to technology,
in regards to birth control, in regards to slavery, in regards
to women’s rights. The world of 1789 is far, far different then
today, and needs to be treated differently. You must adapt
your thinking to what is valid and current today, not 1789.

man…that Astral guy is a hoot!

Now I not only believe you are a misogynist but also a racist! how exciting and stimulating. And I said I was “bi-racial with” so I am myself first. Anyone who labels themselves as just an American worries me because they forget that everyone has a history elsewhere. And they may bery well be nationalist…which in history has bode oh so well for almost everyone.

Also, I don’t know if you got this memo, but pro-white supremacy groups have been and are still around intimidating, maiming, and killing afro-americans. All the while, the “Conservatives” essentially disarmed, and incarcerated the Black Panthers…just filling ya in on the times my friend.
It appears you are stuck in an insane time rift in regards to your overall sentiments and understanding.

Now back to the matter at hand. We no longer live in an era where every citizen should be armed with a rifle, AK-47, submachine gun etc. As I said before hand-guns are dangerous but they can be good IMO which is just that an opinon. Criminals have guns because of people’s ability to so readily obtain them. Which should trickle away much like most of the other facets that have changed over time.

But, of course, since I believe people shouldn’t have shotguns all of Astral’s NRA, pick-up truck driving, wholesome, American’s may seek me out #-o Wow this random insult thing sure is fun lets do it on every thread like AStral!
