Justification for Idealism

agincourt - discuss what? You claim that numbers are real. Is a fire hydrant real? Describe its qualities. Then describe the qualities of any number. Describe the substance of a hydrant, and then of an idea. Just let us know what you are talking about, please.

The problem with this is that practical, sensical and experiential meanings can be equally illusional.

Imagination can be deceptive.

You’re right, but if the context is practical then deep philosophical explanations may or may not apply to the circumstances.

If you’re pushing the button to get a coke from the coke machine and it comes out as expected and you receive the expected change, why would it matter if illusions are the basis of your world? My guess is that it wouldn’t matter that much, if at all.

It wouldn’t matter if you weren’t already conscious of such illusions, however upon self introspection and contemplation I would say that understanding things as being illusions would be quite bothersome.

It depends on the amount of realization that one comes to.

Hmm, I’ll have to think about that one. I think of reality as an illusion, but I got over the point where it bothered me and just accepted it.

I can accept that reality could indeed be an illusion. It is when other people try to tell me that their illusions of existence is “better” than mine which irritates and vexes me.

Yes, I feel the same way. If a person thinks of reality as an illusion, then how can one reality possibly be ‘better’ than another reality?

I think that this line of thinking speaks a lot about human empathy/apathy/antipathy and relations to one another.

No doubt.
