Not sure where to put this, but here seemed most obvious.
Anybody care to share opinions on him? I’ve just finished reading the Castle, I must say I’m completely sold on his writing style. I’ve got a question though, or more an invitation for discussion, I recall reading somebody (Camus, I think) saying that The Trial diagnoses the problem, the Castle provides the solution. Now, what exactly is the solution meant to be? Obviously the book is unfinished, but it looks like K. is ready to give up on his attempts to find out whats going on, and is going to settle for living in hiding with Pepi. Is this his solution, that instead of looking for the meaning/purpose of it all, we should instead abandon the search and live a life in hiding? Certainly, that he doesn’t advocate any kind of rebellion seems completely comfortable with his overall attitude, for all of his ridiculing of bureaucracy he always recognises its immense power and strength. Man may be stuck in a meaningless and absurd universe, but Kafka certainly doesn’t seem to think we can change that, the forces set against us, whether they take the form of government officials or ‘life itself’, are too strong.
