Nothing is more disrespectful than a delusional man and his understanding of the world around him. Yet, people generally associate lack of respect with rude gesticulation, as if gesticulation were all that matters.
How can you tolerate a diversity of opinions, that is to say, a diversity of disease that is self-deception? Tolerance is only understandable if it’s subordinated to a noble goal such as helping the person understand his own delusion, but otherwise, it’s very unhealthy.
This seemingly social behavior is actually asocial: tolerance leads to solipsism. But it’s not only tolerance that is problematic here: skepticism, too, is problematic. The problem with skepticism is that it is negative: it does not rank, it simply strips things off their meaning. Skepticism is rude because it hates answers and conclusions.
Being rude towards the disrespectful is not disrespectful in my book.
What does it mean to be respectful? It means to glorify reality, truth, power and strength (one can even say these are all synonymous.)
I’m not offended by stupid people i.e. people with low IQ. I am offended by people with unhealthy values (a mentally challenged person can still be healthy in many ways), by someone who explicitly or implicitly glorifies untruth and weakness. Christians, feminists, liberals, democrats, humanists, metaphysicians, quacks – and the list goes on – they all offend me.
People are interconnected which means that they are not solipsists who live in a vacuum (they can only pretend to be solipsists.) So, it’s not MY values against THEIR values, but HIGHER values against LOWER values. Sure, it might be that my values are lower and that their values are higher, but the fact that they TOLERATE everyone’s values is a proof that their values are inferior.
Everyone assumes their values to be the best – everything else is hypocrisy.
You mean, hypocritical mindset such as yours is less prevalent? I don’t think so.
But you seem to be saying that such is a good thing.
I think the whole point is, by what means do you believe that, if not by the very same means that you say shouldn’t be tolerated? What makes you think that your values are “higher”?
It seems like you are just promoting intolerant hatred for everyone who disagrees with anyone else.
No, really. You have all of these personal prejudices. And if others diverge from them – from the things that you glorify: reality, truth, power and strength – they are said [by you] to be suffering from “the disease of self-deception”.
They are deluded precisely because they do not think about this as you do. You are the one who gets to say when values are “healthy”. And the diseased include [again, according to you]: “Christians, feminists, liberals, democrats, humanists, metaphysicians, quacks”.
But in pointing this out [of course] you are not being disrespectful of them or of their values.
Sounds “personal” to me. In fact it sounds like something a Kid would say – or like the objectivist, ideological drivel one encounters time and again over at, say, KTS.
Of course that can only reflect my own “personal” prejudice in turn. I certainly don’t deny this.
Why don’t you bring this all down to earth. Give me an example of a human behavior that often begets actual conflicting points of view [value judgments] out in the world of actual human interaction.
Differentiate for us folks who have a healthy point of view about it and folks who have a diseased point of view instead.
At the same time I can then introduce you to the components of my own narrative here.
You’re hypocritical, James, and you are completely unaware of it. In other words, you are deluding yourself. Everyone thinks their opinions are the best opinions – this is perfectly normal. Whoever denies this is a HYPOCRITE.
It is not disrespectful to the disrespectful, but it is disrespectful to your self. There are better ways to phrase things than in a rude manner even if people are being disrespectful. It is fairly frustrating and hard to overcome that frustration. That fight within your self is worth fighting, though, when you reach the conclusion of it. All of these things are just forms of expressions; outcries of so many things.
These people here that reply to you in this thread, they need help but are afraid to admit it; too proud. They have been lied to and tricked and deceived so many times that they don’t trust anything unless they can’t trust it. They harden themselves up to ridiculous extents while inside each of them is a scared and neglected child that very much wants to be loved even still. They have locked their bitterness up and don’t cry and they will claim they have the right to superior wisdom in the process of entertaining so much negativity at a person who loses their anger, because they’ve worked so hard to control that to exist in the society they exist in, in all of the wrong ways of suppression. They become petty and vindictive and act out in the ways that they do because of that love.
They want to teach you to be like them because they love you and want to make you as strong as they think they are when they remain infinitely weak. A little calmness in such matters does go a long way. They have nothing truly to say at that point because you’re not angry or seeming like you might lose control. At the same time as it being love, they also see you as a form of prey; a weakness; and such has been the natural instinct in men for a long time who have also refused the love that is truly in their hearts. When they have refused to not be greater than themselves.
It remains the duty of every person who can to show them a better way, because these lost souls deserve our compassion and sympathy even as they have made their own choices in life; because they only ever made a decision under extreme duress; unfairly balanced and weighted. It is not entirely their fault, but all of societies. All of mankinds fault. We will share the blame and help fix the mess.
How can you call me a hypocrite for merely doing what you suggest? Disrespecting those who I see as having lower values than my own. Or are you saying that being a hypocrite is a good thing and that I should thank you?
“you are deluding yourself. Everyone thinks their opinions are the best opinions”
Doesn’t that mean that EVERYONE is deluding themselves?
Well, except for you super special superior specimens, of course.
I guess that I wouldn’t be able to tell whether I was super superior, unless I actually was, right?
Or perhaps unless you were kind enough to inform me.
I am disrespectful of their disrespectful values. But since two negatives give a positive, that actually makes me respectful.
On the other hand, they are respectful of other people’s disrespectful values. But since a positive and a negative give a negative, that actually makes them disrespectful.
Relativists are deluded hypocrites, dude.
Personal this and personal that: leave that to the retards, dude. Everything that is personal is, at the same time, not personal (just as everything that is subjective is at the same time objective.)
The question is: who has better prejudices? You think that you have better than mine and I think that I have better than yours. That said, since you know that your prejudices are the best prejudices, you would naturally try to spread them across and squish all those prejudices that are worse than yours. But you’re not (admitting that you’re) doing this: you’re tolerating everything. And that alone discredits all of your prejudices.
Interesting points, all, but… This is not what it means to be respectful, nor is it ever what it has meant to be respectful. You might want people to adopt that meaning, but you’re talking about different things to the rest of humanity. Better synonyms for glorification would be worship, adulation, obeisance, homage. Respect has a social component; older people, those crippled serving their country in battle, one’s parents are all commonly accorded respect throughout different cultures, regardless of strength or power.
Given you’re set against delusion, it would seem appropriate to use words in the ways in which they are used in the real world.
Rudeness is a defensive measure – that’s a sign of self-respect. What you’re suggesting here, on the other hand, is a lack of self-respect since you’re asking me to drop my defenses. This is perfectly desirable to you since you’re directing all of your resentful energy towards producing lies that will remove danger by weakening everyone, including yourself. That’s the real reality of your situation, dude.
To be honest, I don’t care what the rest of humanity thinks. All I care about is truth. And I contend that the true definition of respect is the one I have provided.
Besides that, parents and older people are respected precisely because of strength (which lies in the amount of experience they possess relative to those who respect them.)
