Laundry Questions

Where’s Bessy when you need her?

O.k. (There’s a first time for everything, sorry).

Can I wash white underwear with black underwear/socks? Do Pajama pants qualify as underwear (which should be washed with other underwear/socks)?

Also, in which load do I throw my bedsheets in? With the towels/underwear/socks? Or with the colored batch?

(And I did do a wikipedia search, but as you see, they’ve left vital info out).

Oh . . . plus any cups of age-old laundry wisdom shall be duly appreciated.

-tum :sunglasses:

watch out for that little red sock…it will make a whole load of white laundry pink. (unless that is what youre going for)

nothing colored should go in with white unless it is pastel (in some cases)

it doesnt matter if you wash undies with regular clothing. colour is all that matters.

oh, and dont use bleach or detergent with bleach when washing colours.

if all else fails do it the old fashioned way with a bar of soap in the sink.

good luck!

youre so cute.

Firstly, you need a wife, TUM. You shouldn’t have to concern yourself with trivia like this; it’s a woman’s job – and they like it.

Until then, I found that it’s much more economical to wash sheets in the dishwasher (so long as there’s only dishes, glasses and cups – i.e. no cutlery)

Sox, underwear etc are best put with the pots and pans (use the dishwasher’s ‘heavy grease’ setting)

.

km, you’d better have a reeeeely good helmet. When the ladies catch up with this, you’re going to need it. :astonished:

Ohhhh here we go… the PC club has arrived. Hey, where were you when TUM asked about separating blacks from whites and suggesting that ‘colours’ should have their own wash?

Oh, the hypocrisy. :unamused:

.

  1. Anything with color that is new - wash seperately in cold, especially red.
  2. If you put your whites in with anything else they will become dinghy over time. I wash my whites seperately for this reason - always…
  3. I wash my towels seperately or they will throw the balance of my washer off - a pet peeve of mine.
  4. Bedsheets? You can put cotton undies and socks with them. If your bedsheets are the 400 ct kind, wash in cold only or they will never be the same.
  5. Recap? Colored towels alone. White towels alone. All whites alone on warm setting. All colors together but in cold water.
  6. A tip: Always wash your black clothes in Woolite in cold if you don’t want them to fade. They will last twice as long.

Philoso-mom is needed for something, I guess. Now, who can tell me the best way to strip wallpaper. I am in serious need of a project.

ET was right on her advice. Good girl.

steam/heat

How do you propose steam/heat vertically? An iron?

we just tore ours off- we were about to pay ppl to do it (like $400 ) but we found out that (in our case) you could simply peel it off!!!

as far as the steam thing goes…clothing iron???

hair drier for stripping wall paper(also works well when removing old windows that have a silicone or glued seal), start off on low and go slowly higher until your find the right temp.

Ivory Soap gets out protein stains and many others(also kills fleas and flea larvae and eggs plus sprayed in your yard will kill numerous bugs with out harm to lawn and most plants.). Lemon Juice on whites will brighten and remove stainslet it sit on it for a while , for better effect set out in the sun for a couple of hours, then wash normally.

You can also soak stained cloth in salt water to remove the stains just wash thoroughly after the soaking, about two or three times through the cycle.

Never put stained clothing in a drier until stain is removed.

Avoid bleach if at all possible, it weakens the fabric, Unless it is built in to detergent and says it is color safe.

Km, you’re hilarious. Now now, what girl doesn’t love a guy who does his own laundry? Just give me a few months, and I’ll even learn to cook something other than pasta and omlettes.

“Woolite” ?? O.k. we’ve just jumped from 101 to 410 :astonished:

Bessy, I’m printing that list out. Mucho Gracias.

I do wonder what in the world permenant press is – that sounded intriguing, but I manged to push back the temptation.

Things I learned:

  1. Polyester is a synthetic (High School Chem. actually came in handy).
  2. Not to dry synthetics with cotton (cotton doesn’t fully dry on low).
  3. Laundry is super-duper fun! Freetime to read and think while waiting and folding. And to watch dirty clothes regenerate, totally blew my mind. I’m telling you, like there’s a line for a poem in there somewhere.

And who knows, maybe next week, I’ll even dare to wash my whites.

Bessy,

Uhhh, I just happen to have a commercial wall paper steamer and even a VHS tape explaining how to use it. I’d be happy to ship it to you for the cost of shipping and maybe some other… you know… considerations.

:sunglasses: JT :sunglasses:

Would that require webcaming of some kind?
