my mom is really pressing me to get it done. I don’t know if I want it or not. I’m kind’a skeptical about what it’ll do for me and it appears optometrists can’t agree on it.
anyone know anything about it?
I don’t pay much mind to the clinical/technical aspects of it (naive on my part, I know) but everyone I’ve known who’s had it done has raved about it. Early on I was more skeptical (plus it was WAY more expensive) but it’s been around for a long time now (over ten years, no?) so you’ve gotta think there’s plenty of optometrists who ‘know what they’re doing’ to the extent there’s nothing really to worry about. And from what I’ve seen on TV, the procedure is easy - quick, painless, and ultimately conducted by a computer, so there’s no worry about a ‘human mistake’ per se.
Don’t take my word for it - I’d say eyes are pretty important - but that’s my take on the matter. I’d love to have it done if I could afford it.
well my mom had it done to her when she was 40. now she’s 50 and is starting to use reading glasses. that’s natural. but for younger people (I’m 20) their eyes are still changing when they get the surgery done and in 6 months time they’re back to wearing glasses.
The optomitrist that I talked to was very skeptical and said that unless you’re garunteed that your eyes aren’t going to change anymore, it’s probably not worth it.
legally, you have to be 18 years old before you can do it, which illiminates the larger chance of change, but a good doctor knows your eyes can still change after that.
I’m scared that I’ll get stuck with a doctor that’s anxious to get money and will ignore the negative possibilities.
gah, I hate this kind of stuff. theres no sure answer to anything and I don’t feel like I can trust anyone because they’re all bias.
I had it done a year ago. So far so good. I had terrible vission going in, now I have better than 20/20.
I’d recomend getting LasEk over Lasik though. You don’t want to cut your eye open, because it never heals completely. Lasek will use a laser to burn through the _____ and not cut it open. It will be irritated for about 5 days, but I thought it was worth it. Lasik will heal immediatly, and you will be ready to go and drive home after the surgery, but like I said earlier, it won’t heal completely, and it might flap open if something troumatic happends. Soldiers are required to have LasEk instead of Lasik done.
Here is exactly how the surgery went.
They sat me down in a chair. Dropped about 5-6 drips of something in my eyes, to numb them or whatever, then took me to another room to get the actual thing done. They sat me down. Had my eye open with some things, then proceded to use the laser for about 25 seconds while you stare at a red light. Everything goes black for about 20 seconds, then your vission comes back. Everything is too bright going out of the surgery, so you won’t be able to drive back, and you’ll be like that, and it will feel like you have sand in your eyes for about 4-5 days. After that you’ll be all set.
i’ve been told the key is to spend some money, don’t go to a cheep doctor, i have a friend that paid a little more and he is covered for touch up’s for the rest of his life (or at least until they go out of bussiness). the cheep ones just do the job and leave you on your own
sounds about right. money is about the only thing that makes people care.
thanks you guys, and thanks Duder for the walk through. I appreciate it. if anyone else has imput, I’d like to hear it.
