Legalize it?

A snippet from the USDA/FS internal weekly LEI report –

Point Reyes National Seashore - “A local resident recently advised the park of a marijuana plantation near his property. Rangers joined Marin County SD deputies in searching for the site and found about 225 plants in a patch within the park. They destroyed the plants and removed evidence from the site. To date, NPS law enforcement personnel (rangers, special agents and Park Police officers), DEA agents, county deputies and officers from a number of other agencies have cooperated to remove 5,500 plants worth about $19 million from three sites within the park and another 7,800 plants from a site on adjacent Marin Municipal Water District lands.”

The parts that jump out at me the most when I read this – “They destroyed…$19 million…”

Just one of many fun little snippets I read on a weekly basis. Tell me again, why are we not legalizing, selling, and taxing marijuana?

It’s a war dammit, a war on drugs. Wars have a logic of their own, usually based on totally irrational ideas about the enemy. Weapons are often aimed at totally harmless beings like children or marijuana plants and their growers, while those with the guns and uniforms practice a scorched earth policy on anyone or anything that might be deemed uncontrollable. It’s OK to smoke cigarettes, drink alcohol, and take as many pharmaceuticals as you like, though.

Naturally. Why would we want people euphoric and relaxed when we can have them overdosing on prescription meds, spending thousands of dollars paying for cancer treatments, or helping with population control by driving while drunk?

Too true. And really, why would we want them to expand their minds and become active for freedom on the behalf of everyone either?

Oh god, I don’t even want to think about that. The horror! :scared-eek:

Exactly. That’s the point. . . .

It’s the fact that weed can cause someone to start seeing things out of the norm. It’s like an artificial philosophy maker. LOL Another note once you smoke pot the first thing you usually come to is “why aren’t they legalizing this…?” LOLOLOL goes hand and hand. The oblivious eventually comes to sight, but the obvious it seems takes longer.

edit thats prolly not why but I think its important

Actually, you make a very good point here. Pot is not a dangerous drug. Tobacco and alcohol are much worse but are legal. So there must be something about pot that scares control freaks and fascists; and that could be exactly what you are indicating – that the “oblivious comes to sight.” I would just add that the “obvious” is oblivious to a lot of people addicted to popular opiates, including tv, sports, violence, gaming, and so on. Having one’s narrow addictive world expanded through consciousness of a wider and more illuminating perspective can be a dangerous thing for people depending on addictions to keep people in line.

I’m beginning to think I must have smoked the wrong gear for about 7 years. Spliffs did not make me philosophic, or worry about the enviroment, or liberate my mind in any way. It just made me giggle like a cabbage and watch dumb shit on the TV.

Tab

I was high pretty much constantly for about 7 years, myself, and while I did get into some “deep, philisophical” conversations while ripped off my ass, I was guaranteed to not remember them later.

What I appreciated about weed was that, if I had a really bad day at work and went home feeling depressed or down-trodden, I could sit down, spark a bowl, and five minutes later be in a good mood – except for those jobs I had where I could just go to work high. I’ve worked some pretty soul-breaking jobs, and being able to smoke pot before work and on my breaks helped me to get through the days by keeping me upbeat and relaxed. Something else that being high all the time did for me was help me to brush off things that would have really affected me in a negative way if I was sober. I think, “Well that’s…I mean, what the…oh well. Fuck it” was the usual thought process here. I just didn’t care.

Of course, this attitude also had a negative impact, but I think if one was to smoke recreationally rather than constantly, one could avoid the negative.

Ah, that might have been where I went wrong. I used to have one for breakfast, and pretty much go downhill from there.

yea if only humans could instinctively do things in moderation, instead of always wanting more… wanting enough… but you dont know whats enough until you do more than enough lol

sorry for dp but another note america made marijuana illegal because is apparently made you hysterical and more entitled to hurt someone or yourself. I guess it made you reckless, also propaganda had said white women will sleep with minorities and such… then after legalizing it for war they made it illegal again because it made you too passive? so they completely flipped the boat here. First because it made you reckless and now because it makes you passive??? Somethings wrongs here lol its clear to me that they are just being BOGUS! and if the black president doesnt do something i dont know who will jk but seriously shit has to be done motherfucka!

Hmm, If our Government started growing plants that were illegal on government land, sold said plants to the people, Our nation would be in the black within two years, not trillions in debt. Screw taxes, sell em drugs.

I have never known pot to make anyone hysterical or harmful to themselves or others. Alcohol on the other hand…

hahaha exactly and they at one point made it illegal… for the better good. but prohibition just can’t work… didnt work with adam and eve with the fruit and they were “perfect” so what hope does modern man have? lol gods a cop

One more thing. Pot is also both medicinal and analgesic. That could be another reason it’s not legal, but I don’t see why the pharmaceuticals couldn’t market it really.

no money cant Paton a plan

Man there’s no way that was 19 million worth.

I mean, 5500 plants, let’s say they net a pound each, most that pound’s gonna cost for outdoor weed is about 1000-1800, (and that’s 1800 even if it’s good quality, which it’s probably not if it’s being grown outdoors in that kinda quantity). And to be honest, it’s doubtful that they’d net a pound each.

Split the difference, and you’ve still got a liberal estimate of about 1400 per lb x 5500 and that only adds up to about 7.7 million.
Plus you gotta think about it there’s no way they had 5500 female plants, and kept them from stressing and going hermie or pollinating one another, so chances are the per pound price, for seeded weed is closer to $500-$800.
Those cops are retarded.

I’m afraid if weed was legal, that the only thing I’d be able to get would be outdoor garbage.
I’d rather pay $400 for an ounce of really god pot, that was grown indoors and isn’t pollinated and full of seeds.
