let's have a general discussion about the concept of god

hi everyone

here is my current view of what god is:

god is superconscious.

god is all-encompassing immanet

god is love.

god is soul and everything has a soul.

what are you guys’ views of god? :astonished:

beingandquirkiness.blogspot.com/ … uckle.html

i read somewhere that the egg came before the chicken seeing as chickens evolved out of other animals and thus there first existed the primitive, like, dinosaur chicken thing that laid the egg that became the chicken. rad. or is that common knowledge already?

Like Fauerbach and others say, I agree that the idea of God is merely a projection of our ideas for perfection. We have moulded the idea of God to make up for our own imperfections, and to obtain a type of “hope” that such perfection is possible and that it will, if it exists, guide us to some meaningfull and better state than the one we have. God is hope.

God is the one most debated thing in history, the notion of a superior being was concieved by humanity as they were illusioned to believe that the underlying necessity was not what they thought but which inevitably was psychological security.

The manifestation of material/earthly pleasures was heaven and if there is good then bad is… hence Hell, this immature misconception that explicitly alludes to the psyche is unwarranted.

This illusion still haunts humanity and the revolters (the so called athiests) have never revolted but are endowed with clarity…

Ah, yes. God. The concept of God. My concept of God might be summed up in the following: He did it. Why did it rain today? God did it. Why did I lose my arm? God was pissed at me and did it. Why did something so far unexplainable happen? God did it.

For me, the concept of God is a nice idea to be thought about, perhaps to relieve stress - kind of like a therapist telling you to close your eyes and imagine a beach.

This is a good point, but it leads to a second question: is “a chicken egg” defined as “an egg laid by a chicken” or “an egg with a chicken in it” ? We’re back where we started…

How about having a godly discussion about generality?

mmm… i’ll think about that one. got it in a Mensa puzzle book. though the book was jam packed with mistakes, if you ask me, so you could be right, i was mad as hell and wanted to email the head of mensa who wrote the book but i think he’s dead now or something. One question was “what is the length of a piece of string?”. I swear there was nearly fire coming out of my nostrils…

That might be more productive. :stuck_out_tongue:

Shouldn’t this discussion be in the Religious Section of threads? Oh my! The Aztec creation story would be quite upsetting to my Dakotah Sioux friends who believe in the legend of the White Buffulo. Only a few years ago an albino buffulo was discovered in Wisconsin. Am. Native pilgimages to the site are still underway. So far no duck who helps create humans has been found.

no! it’s not a ‘nice idea’, GOD DID IT! 4 real…!
he did it all!!! cause he seems to have a wicked sense of humour!

Sorry to harp on about this…but I was bored so I thought about it some more. If the chicken came first, it resulted from an abnormal/ non-chicken force, and if the egg came first, it also resulted from an abnormal/non-chicken force. if you say a chicken egg is an egg laid by a chicken, you presume the chicken came first, and yet then the chicken was made by a non-chicken. Whichever came first, it was made by a non-chicken. So I was probably right because I said the egg came from a non-chicken/ chicken ancestor. my head hurts!

Which god are we discussing here? :astonished: In the spirit of the 1950s game show–“Will the real god please stand up?”

The rest of theology is a meager foot-note to this gentleman.

detrop,
My measely computer only gives half a face. Who is this masked man?
And what silver bullet can he offer that I’ve not already been shot with?

Tristan,
I tried the site you recommended. My computer says it is “forbidden”. Never seen that word before in big brother informational prohibitions. What could this mean? Could you explain the reference for those of us who are having technical difficulties with computers and life?

You have Sioux friends? Awesome.

If you right click on the photo and click view image you’ll see the location of where the photo originated from, and on the link it says it was Spinoza. It is why I bolded that part of the link.

Jakob,
Thanks. My Sioux friends have allowed me to join them in their religious ceremonies (sweat lodge, etc). The seem attracted to an old druid like myself while I’m attracted to their father sky, mother earth considerations of a diety who is whole and to the divinity of all life. Consequently, I get somewhat bent out of shape by the narrow religious views one often meets here. It’s a big world out there with room for variety. It’s difficult for me, however, to call that religious which thinks but acts not or acts without thinking.
