I’m with Imp, a good rare prime rib with horseradish and au jus is quite delectibale…with a baked sweet potato with cinnamon, nutmeg and honey butter and caesar salad with raw eggs goes a long way with me…
About the only foodstuff I invented: Poor man’s Quiche:
3 or 4 thick slices of day or two old bread (Crusty). Cut into roughly one inch cubes.
2-3 large eggs.
One large onion, cut into thin strips.
As much Garlic as you like. Chopped fine.
Absolutely anything of a vegetable or meaty/cheesey nature from the fridge. Chopped.(bacon and chedder is yummy but anything will do)
Chuck everything in a large mixing bowl. Break in the eggs. Mix gently with hands. The egg should make the bread a bit mushy, and coat everything. If it’s too dry, add a little milk, or another egg.
Large frying pan, a good splosh of olive-oil. Quite hot - oil about to smoke hot.
Chuck the whole mess into the pan and spread out/pack down with a fork. You should have about a one inch thick disc when you’ve finished. Fry until the down side is golden, and slides about easily in the pan. Turn it out onto a large flat plate, then transfer the uncooked side back into the pan, cook on low heat for about 5 mins to heat the innards, then finish off on a high heat to brown and seal, add a bit more oil if you like.
Chop it up - throw some tomato sauce at it and eat it. Or use it as a frisbee.
take a few potatoes, slice into discs, boil until fork tender, put on bottom of pyrex dish
dice an onion or two, layer ontop of potatoes
cream of celery soup pour ontop, then add a good serving of mushrooms…not portobello…seriously…then season with white pepper, cumin, and a little coriander
top with sliced spam bake at 200 degrees until spam is GBD and top with cheese, pepper jack and asiago preffereably
no need for an accompianament side dish, because everything is already there…
now if you’re italian like myself…you can replace the potatoes with tomatoes and the cream of celery soup with a ratio of 2:1 tomato sauce and tomato paste…respectively, and instead of pepper jack use parmesan, the shredded stuff not the powder…
note: if you don’t like spam, use something else, except chicken or fish, it just takes too long to cook, unless you pan fry each beforehand, i’ve never tried it…
