The admittance in speech of things that don’t make sense and that you are unable to criticize may the worst thing. Since that _ideology_ has an anathema (you can’t question some stuff), that counts as a cult to me. Maybe that imposing of a cult of a minority over all without question may be bad

Maybe an overall lack of attention of parents (paying attention to cellphones) gives rise to this

> Identity politics are interesting, I have heard them associated with cultural marxism and maybe there is something to that. To me, it seems like a natural result of neoliberalism and capitalism because these are always pushing the envelope when it comes to hyper-individualism, narcissism and (profitable) delusion. The marxism angle might come in where these forces also tend to push entropic effects and communism is basically one huge entropic effect, at least on a certain level, but I really do think neliberalism / global capitalism are the cause of this,

Sure, identity politics became a thing following the impact of Neomarxism, the Frankfurt School. Their philosophy is very Communist (materialist) in that it believes in the mechanical nature of mankind, like Communism it doesn’t believe in spirit or even true individuality, the soul, which is why it so overemphasizes on Identity Identity Identity Identity, because they don’t really believe in an underlying being.

> directly but also indirectly by creating conditions for moral decay and a decay in sustainable positive human social relationships replacing these with people addicted to their smart phones and social media dopamine reward hits, so now the companies control and know more about these people than their own friends and family. Everyone seeking attention, everyone pursuinig their own narcissistic pleasures as an individual without concern for the group. Sometimes people say liberalism-leftism is collectivist and in the sense of being NPCs controlled by corporate news and government propaganda that is true, Nietzsche’s veritable Last Man, but more generally speaking they are far less group-oriented in their habits and values than the average conservative or non-political person. Their “groups” and “collectives” are identity political power-plays meant to give them more narcissistic “freedoms” to consume and pleasure-seek and to stop or shame into silence anyone who might threaten that.

Absolutely I agree. The flesh and blood groups I was in have dissolved under the marriage of ideology and tech which forms dead kinds of groups. Where you just “chime in” instead of actually being in it as a multidimensional irreducible being causing frictions with all the craziness and pressures and irrationality and depth and getting to know who you are gradually instead of just checking a box.

The most meaningful identity-‘politic’ I saw in recent years was a whatsapp group about a supermarket chain. People going on there and describing their experiences in that supermarket and posting special announcements about some lovely product they found. Some people even got married on account of being in that same group and meeting each other. But this was to me a very real thing, very trivial compared to Sexuality or Race or Politics but actually maybe more healthy as a focus, more grounded. It gave me some hope. The supermarket as Heideggers bridge, gathering being around it. (Note that this supermarket sells good products, not (just) poisonous shit.)

But about identity and attention: your point converges with this post Ive been thinking about a lot the past day. The whole post has a lot of meaning to me but Im quoting this bit which relates directly to what you said.

> [@eodnhoj7](#):

> trauma will be percieved as a psychological initiation thus effectively resulting in its propagation out of a form of identity derivation while inadvertently causing the chaos they percieve.
>
> Chaos integration will become a form of individual and group dynamics with various perspectives emerging as a means to provide a pattern and narrative from which identity will be derived so to instill a sense of meaning. However such variations in perspectives effectively clash thus causing a morphing of not just trauma but effectively how and where it is percieved. This morphing acts as a catalyst for social and psychological data derivation by AI in which the AI magnifies its margins by accords to a reciprocal mirror effect that cements such patterns by repetition of it.
>
> Trauma thus becomes a subconscious moral agent for change that reciprocates the overt cultural overtones for change itself at the individual and group scales.
>
> In these respects conflict, of the various forms, becomes an ethical requirement so to derive the very identity it seeks to refine by degree of promoting a constant state of transitioning attentions.

There are two types of wars, actual and potential, and both dr…

So this is about identity politics and following that, identity-tech, splintering not only society but the human being itself.

Yes what are those exactly, interesting. But it’s true. In Rome it went parallel with a decline in art.

9 BCE under Augustus:

 ![dr53dmy](https://www.ilovephilosophy.com/uploads/default/original/3X/c/b/cbad7c1a09126ac3fb5743a57956862b35c17161.png)
315 AD under Constantine:

 ![dr53dmy](https://www.ilovephilosophy.com/uploads/default/original/3X/c/b/cbad7c1a09126ac3fb5743a57956862b35c17161.png)
I nearly puked when I first saw this.
Anyway at this point the imperial court was staffed largely by eunuchs.

So… what’s the cause of this fall? I only got a clear picture when I read The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. The decline is structured differently but the underlying compulsions are similar.
At the heart of the process in both cases seems to be the loss of Aristocracy.

Related to everything I already posted. Relaxation or collapse entirely of long-standing traditional norms and taboos indicates entropic effect across society, especially if this happens a lot in a short period of time. Increase in hedonism and hyper-individualism as prioritized over group-level interests (people stop caring about what is best for the society and care only about what is best for themselves). Then you have what I wrote about the genetic factors including increase in harmful gene mutations. This happens naturally over time once a society has “overcome” natural selection pressure that used to work via high infant mortality and fierce competition on all levels of the society. Once that society has become very successful, affluent and productive it tends to become more lazy too. Competition weakens, the state flush with funds starts paying people to not work and the upper classes use inflation and government monetary debasement to further enrich themselves without effort. Productive advancements mean infant mortality crashes to 1% or so. We are seeing all of these influences in our western societies today. The net result is that harmful gene mutations are no longer purged from the population because there is no meaningful selection pressure against them. Mutations grow every generation and this can be (and has been) measured directly.

A majority of our genes code for something about the brain. New (de novo) mutations that occur all the time are random, so the odds of those mutations hitting something that codes for a brain-related structure are high. As you get more and more of these mutations causing harmful changes to genes affecting how the brain works, there is a corresponding increase in mental health problems, IQ drops, and long-standing physiological structures that were selected for by evolution (including heterosexuality because two straight people having sex is the BASIS for how evolution can even function in human societies, i.e. having babies) start to weaken. A rise in LGBT is one result of that. Humans are a sexually dimorphic species and this is hardwired into us at the genetic level. A breakdown of this dimorphism even at the psychological level (e.g. increase in people who think they are trans) signals something is wrong. There is a book _The Crumbling Genome_ you may want to get if this topic interests you.

Ah so it’s not societal collapse that causes it, it’s societal _success_ that you think causes it, via a decrease in selection pressures. The way you worded it, I thought you were implying our biologies know when societies are going to collapse, and people somehow become gay in response to that.

Some of that makes sense to me, some doesn’t. The US is obviously in extreme debt (some numbers say 100 trillion) and the poverty levels are devastating. That state and people were a lot more affluent in the 1950s, when child mortality was a lot higher than it is now. Lower child mortality has recently been a result of medical invention rather than increased prosperity.

You are right, I had forgotten about that part of marxism. The gross materialism and denial of anything transcendent or spiritual. Essentially, it preaches the death of the human soul and being. No wonder people associate neomarxism with global capitalism, even though on the surface the idea of relating communism and capitalism seems absurd. But the more I think about it the more I see them merging in the extremes. Horseshoe theory maybe.

Absolutely, I notice this a lot now. Everyone being inside by themselves on a computer or phone, that is not the basis of community or “social networking” with people. It is anti-social. We used to joke about the name “social media” when it was first getting popular, calling it unsocial media. I doubt young people today would even know what that criticism means, they are habitually online. They are being rewired to define sociality and human connection through a screen.

Very cool, I would like to see more groups like that. There are still groups of people getting together in the real world, let’s not forget that. I know of regular groups that meet to discuss philosophy, book clubs, chess groups, and gaming groups. Let’s hope technology can be usefully fused with real-world interactions and group meet-ups in positive ways like you mentioned.

I suppose like so many things this is all a litmus test, or a crucible of sorts. People are free to choose which direction they want to go it: do you use the power of technology for good or for bad? Your own personal good and bad but also that of others around you. What are your values, how do you prioritize, which of the ‘two wolves of our natures’ do you feed more with your attention and time? I don’t mean you personally I am speaking generically.

I need more time to think about the other stuff you posted by that eodnhoj7 guy. Will reply to that when I have something meaningful to add.

As funny as that sounds the way you phrased it, I think there even might be some truth to that as well. Not a dominant factor, but as society is collapsing people lose hope and perspective, many lose the drive to procreate (for example due to a lack means to properly raise kids) and also start seeking fulfillment in more experimental libidinal ways, such as sexual identity politics, some excitement of coming out as gay when they’re not even actually gay but just an unfulfilled heterosexual. I think I general with impending collapse people start to experiment with themselves more.

I know. You can just sell the dark ages approaching with that second one.
But Roman art was copied from the Greeks.
And if you look at primitive (archaic) Greek art, it is very different. It’s not muddy, murky like the arch of Constantine; it’s tight, but cold and static, not-yet-human.

Yes….in short terms identity politics creates the very same division it seeks to avoid. When ta person says “I am this and not that and because of this I am my own person” they create a fundamental distinction within themselves and others that results in an absence of unity.

By praising diversity….diversity occurs. Reality becomes what we assert, within ourselves and others, as those assertions are boundaries that derive the reality in which we inhabit.

We are all terribly responsible for how existence unfolds….responsible to the point of it being almost terrifying. What we assert as real and unreal is part of this responsibility. Humans are co-creators of the universe, not creators…co-creators.

“Being sexually abused as a child has been linked as a causal factor in some cases, although pro-LGBT people don’t like to think about that.”

Sexual perversion is in 100% of cases a result of childhood sexual assault. There is no such thing as “cultural” perversion, because the way natural sexuality feels to the healthy mind is too powerfully fulfilling. It’s the same way starvation never becomes a fad, except where it was already an expression of psychic disorders.

The perversion occurs during the phase in childhood when sexuality is assembled and developed, to be deployed during the first few cycles of sexual maturity (physical maturity being first period for women, emergence of erections for men). This is why sexuality is not actually fully mature until after two or three cycles following physical maturity (roughly 9-month cycles).

“Cultural,” as well as any other kind of sexual perversion, is a desperate attempt of an interrupted sexuality to find expression.

The reason perversion is viewed with mistrust or even hostility is that 100% of sexual criminals are also victims of childhood sexual assault.

This means that sexual criminals will be vastly over-represented in any group defined by sexual perversion.

This is why they are “hated.”
