"lieing creatively" with no truths? (Nietzche)

Nietzche says that knowledge is merely the instrument of power; there is no absolute truth, but only fictions which serve better or worse to foritify life. he also recommends lieing creatively… what does he mean by saying the latter?

if there is no truth then how and why should we lie creatively… what does he mean? i could really a new perspective on this… thank you for your time.

Perhaps he means that since there are no truth, everything is a lie. So choose the best lie you can come up with…

Can you post the aphorism involved?

NOTE: IGNORANCE IS NO DEFENSE. THESE RULES WILL BE ENFORCED

ii) Don’t just ask questions. Bring something to the discussion.

Asking “WOAH…LIKE…COULD WE BE LIKE…IN THE MATRIX???” does not make you a philosopher. Honestly. Asking questions is great, as long as you have studied to some extent the topic that you are talking about. Have the decency to go and read some philosophy before asking questions that any old schmoe could ask. There’s no need to try and look cleverer than you actually are, this isn’t a contest. We’re here to educate and be educated.

iii) We are not here to do your homework

in answer to your question, read human all too human, twilight of the idols and the anti christ…

the most effective lies are hidden under the holiest of titles…

I think that he means that if we are making up reality then we should make up something interesting. Don’t be boring, may be the message.

thanx for the book titles, im coming to be really interested in Nietzsche. im also interested in many other philosophers and philosophies and i was reading this book , A Brief History Of Western Philosophy to try and start off with learning a little about a lot of people.

thank all you other guys … that makes sence.

Read Schopenhauer. You will love him.

Manybe the most relevant essay to read is this one that I just found:

On Truth and Lies in a Nonmoral Sense, July 1873, Friedrich Nietzsche

Uniqor,

Have you read Schopenhauer?

I’ve read him, but only through Nietzsche.

i have read of Schopenhauer , basically, … he wrote about the ‘will’ … i have read about him, but not yet his words. i love how he thought of music being the copy of the will itself rather than a copy of the ideas like the other arts…( i know i most likely sound simple minded but im just begining with all of these guys.) there was alot i liked about him, nietzsche, marx and many others.

The World as Will and Idea was good and interesting, but I love his essays. You should be able to find them in a book store. He thought of evolution before Darwin and thought of Freud’s ideas long before he did. In fact, Freud was charged with stealing Schopenhauer’s ideas about the mind. Freud then said that he predicted what I was going to say!!

Anyway, Schopenhauer was a great cynic. As I said his essays are much more down to Earth than The World as Will. I promise enjoyment and maybe a few laughs.
