I’ve written a short manifesto “FOR THE OVERMAN; A Treatise of Philosophy for the New World” – which is on amazon right now, just search FOR THE OVERMAN and look for my name as author It is also available on kindle (for free if you’re an Amazon Prime member)
and I am looking to revise it again. I’m open to the idea of an editor or even co-author for this second edition. The general idea and theme of the book is really great, I think-- but perhaps it needs a second pair of eyes. Maybe it can turn out to be a sort of ‘Marx and Engels’ partnership.
I had written it with the intention of being short and simple enough to actually get read by people who aren’t philosophy buffs (‘short enough to be enjoyed over a single cup of coffee’)
anyways, I won’t say anymore. If anyone thinks they might be interested in developing an editor/co-author relationship for the second edition of this book-- please let me know at
Imdavidfindley ( at ) gmail ( dot ) com
The revision should encompass little things… from changing the potentially off-putting ‘new world order’ to just simply ‘world government’ (in the same theme as Schelling seemed to propose in his original metaphysics.)
the sections are as such:
relevant greek philosophy
kant to fichte
schelling and hegel
marx and engels
stirner and nietzsche
the end of history and the overman
–so if you’re interested I hope you have studied your german idealism =p
please let me know if you’re interested ! if you have questions please just email me directly
Before I email you, can I ask whether this is paid editing work or based on split profits, if the latter, based on the sales of the first book is it likely to generate at least a decent profit? Or is this to be done for the ‘love of philosophy’?
The book was just formally published last week. The kindle version is still horribly formatted for a failure between MS Word and kindle lay-out.
I am just looking to make revisions to enhance readability and maybe emphasize or explain important points that may not be clear.
An editor or co-author could help with suggestions regarding the main text, perhaps add to the discussion, and ideally maybe even write an introduction to the text.
The book is selling for 4$ a copy-- so of course the work is not done with profit in mind. The benefit of being editor/co-author of the book is that you would get your name associated with it as editor or co-author.
…and, PS, the book is mine. Unless you really take the book to new heights, you’ll likely only get to be associated as an editor-- that is if I accept your editing suggestions (and introduction) and incorporate them into the second edition.
(my original posted reply did not seem to come through…?)
I only make 25 cents per copy sold-- so pay and profit sharing are out of the question. The reward is, like you said, in the philosophy itself. If I accept your editing suggestions, (and a nice, long, length forwarding introduction,) then I will add “editing and introductory forward by Mr. X”
–which you could put on a resume or something. In order to do this, I expect you to have studied adequately the general history of philosophy, and particularly the tradition of german idealism.
If you are so awesome that you can help-rewrite the book-- and actually make it considerably better-- then I will acknowledge you as co-author. This is highly unlikely to happen, though =p
Contact Cezar or Sauwelios directly on this site. Cezar will agree but will be a dead end, but is a enjoyable experience none the less to see Nietzsche presented in his most twisted form. Sauwelios if you want Nietzsche poorly understood directly but he does have a high comprehension of just about everything put out on the net about him over the last decade, so PM them both. You will get some interesting conversation from both you can’t get otherwhere. Both are example of a perspective high tide of a larger diaspora of readers- the extremes of points of views.
Mo speaks as if he knows something. However, I don’t know if he actually knows, I just lazily accept he knows all these other commentators he knows of exist, and that he read them. I don’t have a good reason to test him on this, so I let him be in this respect, as I don’t really want to know what 20 other academics thought about Nietzsche.
Brevel is decent. Solidly decent. Not fantastic, nor bad. Like, if you need a appendix or foreward to a electronic edition, I would totally not blink a eye in shock or disapproval if Brevel did it. Hell, at 4 dollars I might just read it just for shits and giggles if it was done, but only the said sections. Not though, if it was like, 10 dollars or something like that. Too expensive for a Nietzsche work. I just dropped 80 bucks on a math book that reproduces the 10 Mathematical Canons of Ancient China into English. That is worth some money, that’s some deep shit. Not Nietzsche thought, he’s like… poo poo paper for babies just gettng started in philosophy.
Honestly… Brevel… very safe. You won’t fail going that course. Solidly mainstream and not distracting.
Well, thanks for the compliment. But actually my understanding of German Idealism is poor. I’ve never even read Hegel, for example. I thought he was looking for an editor - I have been a professional editor on several occasions for a number of published works and also a number of in-house corporate magazines. I thought this was an offer of paid editing work, the professional in me twigged an ear as I struggle to get editing work, but when I get it I normally make bank and it always seems easier than any other form of work I do.
I thought he was looking for a professional editor with some background knowledge in philosophy. I know a handful of editors, but not many have philosophy degrees, so I’d fit the bill nicely. But it turns out he is looking for a professional philosopher (or thereabouts) with the ability to edit and for someone to look over the content.
Anyway, sorry to sound like a corporatist whore, david, but I was only interested in the money!
