Found a good link here, shows information from papers from the last 50 years and how all the names of different philosophers are connected, how often they occur through the decades, who is connected with who and so on. worth a quick looky.
Turns out Aristotle gets the most mentions!
There are 2 problems:
(1) It is limited to English only.
(2) It does not differentiate between posaitive and negative references.
Very true, still, good work to those who put it together.
Whether or not someone is saying good or bad things about philosopher X or Y its still to their credit that they are getting discussed at all. Hume is so great, partly because he roused Kant from his dogmatic slumber and made him push to point out where hume might be wrong.
Anyhoo, interesting little website there. For poops and giggles anyway.
I see, they’ve got enough time for Putnam and Freud but no time for Roland Barthes…
grumbles and moans, kicks metal bin in corner of room
i didn’t look too deeply at it after seeing the lack of differentiation. i know Barthes should have been on that list, as well as Deleuze and Lacan. And, of course, that’s not mentioning more current philosophers (i.e. those still living).
Also I notice that Rousseau only has 292. I thought that would have been higher. This is kind of weird to look at. Many who I thought would have more are actually a lot lower than I would have expected. And there are some names that are definitely missing, as per SIATD’s sentiments. The fact that it stopped in 1999 I think has something to do with the results, but I still find them odd.
