I was quite shocked reading a thread on another forum how many people claimed they actually wanted the world to end, or couldn’t care less. Others said things like if they were going to die, they’d feel a lot better about it knowing that everyone else would by dying too.
Why so shocked? People who feel that their lives are irremedially spoiled would rather quit the game than to face the consequences of losing. It’s a much easier proposition to just quit than to go through the tedium of actually having a plan for living.
I was expecting some kind of heaven’s gate mass suicide phenomena to happen somewhere. I mean, this did get generations worth of hype… and alot of people thought it was going to end. I haven’t heard of any suicide cults or a rash of suicides. I’m all bumbed out. Not that I wanted them to all die, but that I was completely expecting it to happen in the hard core believers, and they… well, didn’t. They do it for lesser occasions, why not this one? I was comletely prepared to come on this forum and express my disbelief that a cult of a hundred people wearing nothing but nike hats and neon boxer shorts hanged themselves in a abandoned industrial warehouse in preperation for the return of Ganesha or something completely random like that. And now I can’t. Instead I gotta be subjected to years worth of bad science threads showing how somehow the scientific method is superior to the mayan calander… which is going to be lame, pointless, and masturabory for people who think they have a advantage over others thinking process wise. I would prefer it if they just fought it out linke klingnons.
I don’t advoate the end of the world. Baby Jesus came and gave us a message of love, community, and hope… and we fucking crucified him for it. He later came back and gave a deeply disturbing, highly detailed account of how he’s going to systemmatically kill us off in a long, drawn out process in which all our horrows will be realized, and totally refused to tell us when exactly it’s going to happen. I have faith in him that he’s going to do this, he once drowned everyone on earth because a town of hill billies went overboard on the anal sex, so I have no reason to doubt this, and it’s enough for me to live a normal, peaceful life… until he fucking kills us all… or not. Whichever comes first. But these little suicide cults… I think they are silly. Just bummed out none of them bothered with it on all all days this day. I totally was prepared to be shocked by it.
I don’t think many people took it seriously, but something like mass suicide almost happened:
"Argentine authorities will cut off access to its highest mountain after an appeal on social networking sites asking for people to attend a “mass spiritual suicide” on the eve of the predicted Mayan apocalypse.
Police were alerted to a Facebook event inviting people to take part in a mass suicide on the eve of the Mayan apocalypse on Friday.
It addressed invitees as “believers and fighters of the Light” and implored them to participate in “a spiritual mass suicide on Uritorco”.
The invitation, signed off simply by “EBR” continued: “We will abandon our impure flesh and transport our spirit through the inter-dimensional portal which will open at 21:00 on 21/12/12. Unite with the Army of Light which will save all humanity!”
By the time José Peña alerted local police to the circulation of the invitation on both Facebook and Twitter, 150 people had already confirmed their attendance via the social networking sites.
From the 20th to the 22nd December, authorities will close all access points to Uritorco Mountain which, at 6,600 feet is the highest peak in the Sierras Chicas mountain range in Argentina’s central Cordoba province. " telegraph.co.uk/news/worldne … -risk.html
