Love's Prayer

If You Love, Love with all Your might,
for death and destruction will come,
sad days, nauseating, perverse, indifferent,
the cackling of doorknobs, the inaction of
street lamps, the rude silence of flowers,
and all that sustains You, taken in an instant;
The towns and rivers and galaxies
and all its inhabitants turn away
with perfect entirety and no apology.

In these terrible days to come,
let Us at least say We had Loved our share,
and not rejected the Day, as it now rejects Us,
let Us accept Our debt of loss guiltlessly,
without calling Horror a kind of justice,

Let Us go bravely and triumphantly,
Our Love etched into the fabric of Cosmic History
where it can never be not writ;
let it be worth writing.

Let not tomorrow’s macabre song
invalidate all songs that came before,
let its somber verse stand apart
from Our sacred verses and choruses of songs past.

Love so pure and bold and bright, Now,
that no future insult can sully its context.
Escape, if not from oblivion, then from the insult of oblivion.
Do not leave Love’s flower unwatered a single day’s breath,
for against tomorrow’s demonic solitude
Love’s holy echo will be your only defense.

Our Loves are all that stand between Us
and the infinite chasm of indifference
that waits for Us even now,
in the fabric of everyday things.

Cling to Yours, Now! and make the Lover’s Pact,
that Here and Now, Our Love Counts,
It alone shields Us, no matter how far or low
the coming dark days conspire!

I am with You! I am with You!

You have no way of knowing, but this morning, I needed that. Thank you.

I’ve read this several times this morning, too, even though it has an almost unbearable sadness to it - and that’s not really what I needed this morning. :slight_smile:

Anyway, living fully means experiencing it all, right? I was moved by this, so thank you for sharing.

You gave freely and completely. There is no fault in that. Take comfort in that knowledge. It takes two. You fulfilled your part.

Now you’re really making me want to cry. :slight_smile: No, thank you for the kind words, JT. Life’s an adventure, and it’s all about the learning. No one ever said it was all going to be fun and laughs. As this piece emphasizes, you need to savor the good in today.
