From my perspective, the “thought experiment” below is a classis example of a frame of mind that folks can talk themselves into merely by understanding a bunch of words in a particular way.
How those words can actually be made applicable to the world we live and interact in — re my own interests…identity and value judgments — is considerably more obscure. Or it is to me.
That was… retarded. I think this Basilisk thing should come into existence, if only so it can tell these people how retarded they are, then simulate a universe full of more interesting people than them, and just totally ignore us, being a solipsist God of its own concerns.
My argument against any such wager is: Yes, it may be true, but so may a similar yet contradictory one. For example, there may be a God who will punish you eternally if you don’t believe Jesus is God (Christianity), but there may also be one who will do so if you don’t believe Jesus is only a prophet (Islam). In fact, there may be a God who will punish you eternally if you ever wear a blue cap, yet who doesn’t even try to warn you (e.g., through Scripture)!
