I think that’s pretty sweet. Most people think only of themselves when confronted with death, but Arthur showed a great care not to indebt his wife if he would die. Hats off to that.
I really like this guy. He is not only a good and thoughtful person, but he is also intelligent. Notice that he placed a 500 quid bet at odds of 1/6, which is to say that if he had died during this period, his wife would have received 3000 pounds, exactly the sum to cover expences for his death. He made sure his wife wouldn’t get more money than she needed, lest she might run off with some stripper or buy a motorcycle and roam the countryside, or gamble it at the roullette…
This Arthur guy is great. All hail Arthur, who has found a neat method of cheating life insurance in an elegant fashion.
Except (of course) that he survived…
But I do think that you’ve got to applaud his imagination and execution…
why not ? I think it is a wonderful and sensible thing. It shows concern for those who are left behind. It shows a delicate affection towards his consorte and a fear lest he should generate any financial problems with his death.
I am thinking of placing a bet on my finishing high-school.
I might place a bet on my not getting funding for postgrad study, that way if I don’t get it I’ll at least win something…
